"It is ok not to be ok". I totally agree with this statement and think it is so important to know that anyone can have emotions and thoughts that are overwhelming. It is also important to know that supports are there in the form of friends, family, support lines, therapists, groups and online communities.

These are challenging times for us all, and like Stuart Cameron, MSW, RSW, says in his post: "it is important to acknowledge that we are still allowed to take care of ourselves, and to place importance on our own well-being and self-care". Check out the rest of his tips and suggestions to help you mind your mental health during this time:... https://spaciousmindcounselling.com/7-mental-health-tips-c/

Hi there, We have spoken with some people who are worried about both their finances and access to mental health supports during this time. With this in mind we would like to offer a free/PWYC online therapy group to support people. We will be using a Mindfulness integrated Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (MiCBT) approach, which we are well trained and experienced in delivering. It involves supporting each other as we learn to use mindfulness and compassion skills in daily life w...hile developing a regular mindfulness practice. If you would like to learn more please call us on 647-879-7041 or go to https://spaciousmindcounselling.com/anxiety-around-covid-19/ It's starting on the 24th at 8pm, lasts 1.5 hrs per session, and will run for 8 weeks. Some of our therapists are also offering individual online therapy at a PWYC rate to help people out.

Here is an interesting piece that I can relate to having watched tonnes of TV growing up I really like the reminder about destigmatizing things associated with femininity.

November is Men's Mental Health month. I wanted to tell my story about my first time seeking mental health support in the hopes that other men will do the same. If you want more details and information about my story, read my blog here: https://spaciousmindcounselling.com/my-mental-health-story/

A vital part of looking after our mental health is spending quality time with our support network; it took me a long time to realize that I needed to actively seek people out to talk openly about my mental health and general well-being. Gender and societal norms of keeping it in and "getting on with it" require work to overcome. Talking openly is the way to go.

Sometimes hoping to get the most out of a day we work endlessly. Instead setting realistic goals or working on something for a set period of time increases a sense of accomplishment and helps us maintain balanced energy. Remember to take breaks during the work day. Have a great week.

As the weather changes I know I need to work harder to mind my mental health. Here is a photo of me from the summer which reminds me of overthinking. One way to work with this busy brain that has helped me is to focus on my breath. I first become aware of thoughts and identify if they are helpful or unhelpful and then do my best to bring my attention to the sensation of air as it enters and exits my nose. This helps focus my brain on the present moment.

I am so happy to announce that I have expanded my private practice. For the past year I have had a waiting list of clients and I was never able to reduce the waiting time for people who needed therapy. I don't think it is good to keep people waiting to receive mental health support and it should be covered under OHIP (but that is for a different post). In order to reduce waiting times I am now working with Stuart Cameron MSW, Registered Social Worker Psychotherapist. He has t...onnes of wonderful experience both personally and professionally. He brings an openness, kindness and gentleness that helps clients build rapport quickly. Most importantly he takes a non expert stance believing that each person knows the answers to their issues once the right conditions are provided and the right questions asked. https://www.shanesmythcounselling.com/StuartCameron.en.html See more
