#GraphicVideo 11 yrs ago Gary Kendall died during ice water training. There was no formal training, no plan, no help and no rescue equipment on shore. The Ontario MOL charged the Village of Point Edward as Employer, the Fire Chief AND Third Party Trainer both as Supervisor, but made a plea deal during pre-trial which withdrew charges against the Fire Chief (contingent on his testimony against the trainer) and the Village paying $75,000. The Trainer went to trial where all charges were stayed by the Criminal Judge. The Judge indicated that the wrong person was on trial and the Fire Chief was of little assistance to the Crowne, appeared somewhat constrained by the existence of other proceedings and was evasive and non-responsive. The $75k fine remains the lowest on record for a Municipal fatality.

Interim Measures - COVID-19 (Coronavirus) It was announced Friday afternoon that Waterloo Region will be placed in the Red (Control) zone of the province’s response framework as of Monday, November 23rd. Some of the new measures include limiting organized public events and gatherings to five people indoors and to work remotely, where possible. Spark Safety Solutions will be putting additional precautionary measures in place to protect our employees, clients, visitors, and our... greater community. These measures are subject to change as new information becomes available and are in line with the recommendations being made in the province’s response framework and Public Health advice. While under Red CONTROL, our team members will be required to work from home, where possible, unless required to report to a client workplace or for essential business needs.
