Covid-19 programming update! Special Olympics Alberta has made the call to extend our pause in programming until February 1, 2021. Keeping our athletes and volunteers healthy and safe is our number 1 priority and we support their decision. We will be in touch with our athletes, volunteers, and families in the New Year. Until then please stay safe. We miss you!!! Merry Christmas and a Blessed and Happy New Year!!!

This is my WHY and always will be! Thank you to my big sister Ashley and to every other Special Olympics athlete who inspires me and others every day! Another... outstanding gesture from our Champions Network member Alex Singleton! He joined the NFL’s My Cause My Cleats campaign, where athletes raise awareness of non-profit organizations and causes on the field through cause-inspired custom cleats. Of course, Alex Singleton created these Special Olympics cleats, showcasing Special Olympics Southern California, Special Olympics Montana and Special Olympics Alberta. Thank you Alex and the Philadelphia Eagles! Merci, Alex!

Effective immediately, ALL Special Olympics Alberta in-person programs are suspended until January 11, 2021. Specifically, for our Bow Valley program, this means our 5 pin bowling program and our cross country ski program. We understand this is disappointing news, but please know that the health and safety of all our athletes and volunteers is our first priority. We need to act together now to help stop the spread of COVID-19. Please stay active, stay safe, and know that we will miss you.

I was thrilled to hear about how successful our local athletes were at this year's Special Olympics Alberta Awards ceremony. Congrats to all athletes for a year... dedicated to sportsmanship and fun. Special Olympics Alberta has impacted the lives of so many in our province by creating environments that are inclusive and accessible for those with an intellectual disability. The Special Olympics promotes healthier and stronger communities through sport and social connection. A special congratulations to the local teams and athletes who were honored at this year's ceremony: Athlete of the Year, Shane Stewart (Canmore) Team of the Year, Calgary Storm LETR Award, Paul Manuel (Airdrie) Special Olympics Alberta Special Olympics Airdrie Special Olympics Alberta - Bow Valley Special Olympics Alberta - Calgary

We have made the difficult decision to pause our 5 pin bowling program for the next 2 weeks due to the worsening Covid-19 situation in our province. We realize this is disappointing news to hear as we were having such a successful start to our season. However, because our athletes are high-risk, we are making the proactive decision to suspend all activities for the next two weeks, even though Alberta's Chief Medical Officer of Health has not mandated it for Cochrane at this time. We plan to resume our regular sessions Wednesday, December 2nd if we can do so safely.
