Today is "Blue Monday" has a reputation to be one of the most depressing days of the year. There is a great free resource with Mental Health First Aid tips on "dos and donts" for managers by the Mental Health Commission of Canada Commission de la santé mentale du Canada here-----> https://www.mhfa.ca/en/file/2987 You don’t need to have all the answers; it’s more important to be motivated by genuine concern than to say the right things

In an effort to contain the spread of COVID-19, the City of Edmonton is taking immediate action following the direction of Albertas Chief Medical Officer of Health. We in turn are following this same directive. Effective August 1, 2020, wearing a mask or face covering will be mandatory in all indoor public places. Wearing a mask or face covering helps keep you and your students safe. We need to encourage the use of face coverings for everyones protection, but understand th...at not everyone can wear a face covering. Exemptions to the bylaw People with underlying medical conditions or disabilities that prevent them from safely wearing a face covering. Proof is not required if someone has an exception. Students must: Wear a Mask- surgical or procedure mask Wear a face covering handmade or manufactured mask made of cotton Wear an N95 if they have one Thank you! -Spectrum Safety Services team

Great CPR news story this morning. With proper CPR technique and use of a defibrillator Darrell Parkers life was saved. My whole life Ive known CPR but Ive never had to utilize that experience, but I certainly would (if need be), said Parker. The first person to start doing CPR. he could have made the biggest difference in the whole thing. First person to respond to me -- we dont know who he is, but thank you too.

It is a very stressful time for everyone to say the least. This pandemic can and will have an effect on our mental health. Were sharing some tips to help guide us through this stressful time directly from The Mental Health Commission of Canada. 1. Understand the fight-or-flight response Its normal to feel anxious in the face of a threat. Our bodys fight-or-flight response is designed to keep us safe by heightening our response to perceived danger. Part of that response is... the release of stress hormones, which increase heart rate, blood pressure, and overall alertness. The brain is continuously seeking new informational cues to re-assess the threat level. Unfortunately, if we bombard ourselves with COVID-19 details, headlines, and images, we reinforce the threat signal and perpetuate the stress response. Remember, the information we allow in will affect how we feel and we should monitor that intake with care. Because of the impact stress has on our bodys immune system, managing it during a pandemic is critical to the success of strategies designed to reduce contagion or the severity of the illness... COVID 19 Updated Statement Mar 19, 2020 Spectrum Safety Services and Second Chance CPR & First Aid is taking all necessary precautions to protect students and staff from the impact of COVID-19. As multi-year Consumers Choice Award winners, we strive to be leaders in First Aid and Safety Training and want to be part of the solution to the COVID-19 Pandemic. It is simply not a good idea to be in any classroom situation at this critical time where we need to do anything possibl...e to flatten the curve. We are following the recommendation of the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) in order to protect the public and our staff and are temporarily suspending all in house and onsite training. We have tentatively rescheduled courses to April 6 and beyond but ultimately, those rescheduled dates are also subject to change depending on the status of the COVID-19 situation at that time. We promise to stay in contact with you to provide updates on any further possible suspensions. During this time we recommend online training to support social distancing if it follows your workplace & OHS requirements. This is the link for all available online courses we offer https://firstaidsafetytraining.ca/online-safety-courses/ In order to continue offering assistance to our customers, we have staff available M-F from 8:30am 4:30pm to answer your calls. We are not accepting walk in traffic at this time. Contact us at 780-429-6757 if you have any questions. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this time. Together we can help protect the health and safety of our community. Thank you.
