Repost from @omeara.physio Capacity & Demand .. Injury Prevention is a balancing act between building and maintaining your capacity to meet the demand of your sport, exercise or activity of interest .... .. When evenly matched, a perfect harmony exists . There is a gradient or range in which you can work within and remain at a low risk of injury . .. As the demand of your activity increases , if it is not met with an increase in capacity , the risk of injury grows. Eventually a tipping point is met and that is how injury occurs. The demands outweighed your capacity. .. Not to worry though. There are so many ways to build capacity, both on your own and as guided by a healthcare professional . Balance is restored. You continue to work hard, increasing the capacity in your favour. Suddenly that old PB time, distance, weight...etc. isn't so tough anymore . New demands may be needed to make further gains. .. Occasionally when injury does occur, there may be a period of complete rest and recovery that is needed . This typically should be short-lived, but removing demands may get you back on the right track to success. .. I recognize this is a simplified example and many factors contribute to injury prevention. That being said, the simple notion of building your capacity to meet your activity's demand is very relevant in my world. .. How are you balancing your demands today? .. See more

Repost from @hannahmoves What an awesome analogy! Thank you to Nick Hannah for this stellar post! [ENERGY EBBS & FLOWS] . .... . I dedicate this post to the one who presses pause and also presses play @pressplayphysio who has been a great teammate in helping me self-assess my own energy. . I think we prioritize and give much more attention to those aspects of our lives that GIVE us energy compared to those things that DRAIN our energy. . For a long time I would come home from work absolutely exhausted, even though I would consider myself someone who crushed habits that would GIVE me energy. What I realized was I wasn’t paying attention to things that were secretly draining me. But I’m really starting to figure it out now. . Is this relatable in any way to anyone? . WAVES are coming. . Don’t sit still. Make moves! . Nick Hannah, PT Registered Physiotherapist #hannahmoves #hmrehabmoves See more

Sport Physiotherapy Canada- Ontario Section 15.02.2020

With today being the last day of National Physiotherapy Month in Canada, we had all of our student physiotherapy class representatives from each of the five Ontario schools tell you what Physiotherapy is to them. With this year being an unforgettable one, living in isolation and taking physical-distancing precautions, our student reps have also posted one word or phrase about their go-to coping strategy to manage stress during this pandemic. . . We, the Executive at SPC-Ont...ario Section, want to thank you for following along with us for this month of May. I hope you enjoyed our content and we hope to share even more Sport Physiotherapy Canada tips, policies, philosophies, interventions, and, of course, some witty sport humour with you in the months to come. . . Stay Connected. Stay Safe.
