Having shoulder pain? Make sure you regularly visit Dr D to keep you painfree and feeling great... In between visits : Quick tips: Shoulder Impingement 1. POSTURE: A lot of the aches and pains stem from muscular imbalances in the upper body. In most cases the chest muscles are shortened compared to the back muscles. This is where you see the shoulders coming forward and getting that ‘hunchback’ look.... 2. MOBILITY: Along with addressing the muscle imbalances, the shoulder girdle and spine must also be looked at to ensure proper biomechanics of the joint. This can be done using devices such as foam rollers and strength bands. 3. EXERCISE: Your exercise program will have to be modified to create muscle balance and to prevent further injury. Do not stop exercising! The earlier your get back to exercising the better. 4. TREATMENT: See your healthcare professional to put together a complete treatment plan. The plan should incorporate all of the above and end with you returning to pre injury status.

For those suffering from headaches, stress causing pains in the head or neck, here is a great stretch to help ease the pain between treatments: First, place Hand behind your head and push back into resistance for 10-seconds. Then, tilt your chin towards chest and gently pull your head forward with your hands (Hold for 15-seconds) After that, you want to rotate your head in a 45-degree rotation so that your nose is aimed at your armpit. Gently pull and hold for 15-seconds in each direction. This stretch is great a reducing neck tension and suboccipital muscle tension responsible for many tension related headaches between your regular treatment sessions. For more in depth treatments book an appointment for a deep tissue message in combination with your regular chiropractor visits with Dr D !

Quick Tips: Avoiding Shin splints 1. TAKE A BREAK. Your body needs time to recover. What ever activity you are doing you need to reduce the intensity and frequency. 2. REDUCE PAIN AND SWELLING. Most people like to use ice. I have found Cold Laser therapy to be very effective in accelerating recover.... 3. STRETCH YOUR CALVES/SOLEUS MUSCLES (see figure below). You will find that your calves and soleus (muscle under your calf) muscles are tight. It is the imbalance between these muscles and your shin muscles that contribute to poor biomechanics. 4. FOOTWEAR. Not all shoes are created equal. If your shoes don’t provide enough arch support for the foot it can be a cause of injuries. Orthotic inserts can be used to correct this and can be used in any shoe. Be sure to ask your healthcare professional if you are a candidate. 5. TREATMENT. Seek care from a healthcare professional to speed up your recovery and to reduce your chances of a flare up.

Having trouble sleeping? Here are a few tips and tricks to help you get the rest you need for your busy life: 1) Exercise regularly Exercising in the morning is best, but if you must exercise in the evening, do so at least two or three hours before bedtime. Any later, and your increased heart rate can interfere with your sleep.... 2) Limit your intake of caffeinated beverages Beverages such as coffee, colas and teatry to avoid them altogether late in the day and near bedtime. In addition, for each cup of caffeinated beverages you drink each day, drink an equal amount of water. 3) If you have trouble sleeping and then get thirsty, drink tap water at room temperature (cold water may disturb the digestive system). 4) Eat an early dinner Eating after 6 p.m. may interfere with sleep as your body works to digest the food you’ve eaten. 5) Go to bed at the same time Each night and get up at the same time each morning. The routine will help your body know when it is time to rest. 6) Keep your bedroom at a cool Maintain a comfortable temperature and try to make it as dark as possible when you’re ready for bed. 7) Be Balanced Make sure you regularly visit your chiropractor and message therapist to ensure your body and mind are balanced. Work stress, physical labour and physical lifestyles put a strain on our bodies. Make sure you incorporate regular visits to your chiropractor and message therapists to maintain a pain free balanced body.

What is Biosignature? Biosignature is a non-invasive and very effective fat loss and wellness program developed by world renowned strength coach Charles Poliquin. The technique is used by professional athletes all over the world. Biosignature correlates body fat storage and hormonal imbalances. The importance of hormonal balances are often neglected. If not carefully looked at, athletes can suffer from: stubborn body fat storage, poor sleep, low energy, impaired cognitive function, and more. SIAC would like to recognize a valued patient of ours, Mr. Vaughn "blud" Anderson. Vaughn just competed in the May 9th, 2014 Bellator tournament at Casino Rama. His fight was televised on Spike TV. We are a proud sponsor of Vaughn and wish him great success in his career. Testimonial... Before my last fight, at Bellator 119, I visited Dr. Daramola at the Sports Injury & Accidents Clinic in Scarborough (750 Warden Avenue). I’ve never been to a better clinic! Dr. Daramola is a competitive athlete himself and an expert in sports related injuries. He fixed a long time nagging knee injury ON THE SPOT before the fight. He was also able to correct a chest pain, again immediately, when I came in to see him after the fight. I got great advice about supplements and training as well. This clinic is the best resource I know of for advice and maintenance for pro athletes. I’ve already sent my mom and close friends there. If you are in the area, do yourself a huge favour and check out Dr. Daramola at the Sports Injury & Accidents Clinic. When you've been in a car accident, it can be very overwhelming. Not only are you disoriented but also stressed and in pain. Most people do not know what to do next especially if it's their first. Knock on wood that this never happens to you, but if you're that unlucky victim, here is what you do. 1. Get yourself checked. Depending on the severity of the accident, you may need to be examined at the hospital or by your family doctor. If you do not have one, then a walk-in clin...ic will do. Be aware that you may not experience any aches and pains until later that day or until the adrenaline wears off. 2. Notify your insurance company. Call your car insurance company and let them know what happened. They will ask you about your injuries, how it happened, etc. Once they get the info, a package will be mailed to you. This will contain a number of forms for you, your employer and the treating physician. 3. Get treatment. The earlier you get treatment the better chance you have to recovery. Your family doctor or insurance company can refer you to a clinic, but it's up to you. Even though it is your decision where to go, you want to make sure you choose a reputable facility. Ask them what they offer, and if they deal with these types of cases. 4. Seek legal advice (optional). Seeking legal representation is dependent on many factors such as: severity of injuries, employment, being a primary caregiver etc. I hope this information will never apply to you. But, keep this in mind and pass it along to someone you know.
