Hi Kids!!! My name is Nookie. I am a Fraser River Chinook salmon from stocks of concern. We have done our best to advise Jonathan Wilkinson with real science that recreational fishermen catch less than 1 percent of us. However he continues to ignore us just as he does you. We want to be saved but the decisions the Minister has made will do nothing to help restore my brothers and sisters for the future. We need habitat restoration, control of pinnipeds to stop eating us as we... exit the river in spring and 10,000,000 cousins from hatcheries to help us survive and rebuild. Do not let Jonathan Wilkinson fool you. He has painted us all with one brush that we are endangered and all from the same stock. But the reality is there are many different runs from hundreds of rivers in BC and Washington State that are abundant. He does this for political reasons and not scientific as he promised. Help us by contacting the Minister and tell him to make science based decisions as promised and lift restrictions immediately on non-retention Chinook fisheries in the South Coast and to invest immediately in habitat restoration and hatcheries which will make a difference. Participated in the Father’s Day Derby in Port Renfrew this weekend. What a great event. Managed to finish a respectable 5th place amongst some great fishermen with a 25.3 lb hatchery chinook that was released back to swim another day. Big thank you to Pacific Gateway Marina Island Outfitters Gibbs Delta Tackle and all of the sponsors for this fantastic event!

Vancouver Sport Fishing Guide Association volunteers putting 110,000 Capilano Hatchery Chinook in the Sandy Cove net pen today. These smolts will be fed for the next few weeks before being released. Hoping we see them return in a few years for all to catch. Big thank you to the Capilano Hatchery and especially Phil Grassi for all the organizing he does to make this happen every year. These are the types of projects local volunteers do all over BC so we can have Chinook to catch. Jonathan Wilkinson should have a good listen as he can learn a thing or two from these dedicated people.

WE ASK THAT YOU PLEASE SHARE THIS VIDEO AS WELL so we can crank up the heat on Mr. Wilkinson for a response. Global TV CBC Vancouver

Please join a peaceful protest of DFO’s decision to close recreational fishing to the retention of chinook. Fisheries Minister Jonathan Wilkinson and DFO have announced large blanket closures which are an ineffective way to manage the recovery of early Fraser River chinook stocks. There is no scientific data to support the effectiveness of these closures. The announcement has serious and substantial socioeconomic impacts on coastal communities. We’re encouraging all concerned...Continue reading

Well it is official. Retention of Chinook salmon in the Vancouver area is closed until July 15th. We won’t be able to see these smiling faces as they take a chinook home for the BBQ. But we can still see the smiles as guests enjoy the experience of catching a chinook salmon and releasing back to the ocean. This is what it is all about anyway. The experience! We are open for business and there is still lots of fun to be had with a catch and release fishery. Give us a call to book your Vancouver Salmon Fishing Adventure!

Made the run across a flat calm Strait of Georgia yesterday. Was beautiful water all day. Lots of action for 5.5 hours of fishing as we brought in and released 20 undersize chinook between 22-24 and landed 2 legal chinook. Tasted great too! Gibbs Delta Tackle flashers and spoons, Silver Horde and Yamashita hoochies all worked well.

As outdoor enthusiasts, BC’s recreational sport fishing community cares deeply about our killer whales, our coastal communities, and our entire ecosystem. We all want to help them thrive. But a misguided approach will do more harm than good. To the killer whales, and to British Columbians. visit http://srkw.org for more info
