The new mosaics at the Cathedral of St. Sava in Belgrade, the work of Russian mosaic artists, have been completed and the final works in the church interior are... being slowly brought to an end. This huge church is the largest Orthodox Christian Church in Europe and will be the pride of the Serbian people who have been waiting for decades for the church of St. Sava, the founder of the autocephalous Serbian Orthodox Church, be finally completed. Нови мозаици на храму Св. Саве у Београду, рад руских уметника мозаика, су завршени и финални радови на црквеном интериеру приводе се полако крау. Ова огромни храм е навеа православна црква у Европи и бие понос Српског народа кои ве децениама молитвено очекуе да се коначно заврши саборни храм Св. Саве, утемеитеа наше самосталне Цркве.

During the Ottoman occupation of Serbia, the Christian population lived in very difficult conditions. In addition to charges in the form of agricultural products, to pay tribute to the Sultan and to repair forts, roads, bridges and other structures free of charge. Yet, of all charges, for the Serbian population the hardest was the so-called "Devshirme". The Ottoman Empire has had a constant need for increasing number of soldiers in order to continue its conquests. For this re...ason, the children of the conquered peoples were forcibly taken away from their parents and taken to #Constantinople, where the boys would be converted to Islam and trained to become janissaries. Devshirme was introduced by Sultan Murat II in 1420, and it is estimated that during the following 3 centuries close to 300.000 thousand boys were taken from their families. History recorded that parents would often mutilate their children to avoid devshirme. One of the most prominent Serbs who was taken by the Ottomans as a child was Sokollu Mehmed Pasha, later one of the most important grand viziers of the Ottoman Empire. MILUNKA SAVI (http://bit.ly/2duydoC), Serbian heroine of the Balkan wars and #WorldWar1, was known as Serbian Joan of Arc, as the French called her. She was aw...arded the highest honors and medals that can be awarded to a soldier, and on an occasion all the Allied generals, officers and soldiers payed her respect in the Champs-Élysées in #Paris. Milunka became a symbol of #Serbia's struggle for freedom in the #FirstWorldWar. These are only some of the details that we know about her life. But how do people who knew Milunka personally remember her? Sisters Gorica and Zorica was once her first neighbors, and in an interview with Serbian newspaper they recounted some of their memories. "Her house was right next to ours, we were next-door neighbors. She visited us often, almost daily. My sister and I would visit her in her house at least a few times a week and we would feel very comfortable. For us she was a dear neighbor, a granny who gives us candy and chocolate wafers and tells us strange stories."
