TIP 100) CONCUSSION: A concussion happens when a blow to the head or the body (e.g., whiplash) causes the brain to shake inside the skull. This can result in bleeding and/or swelling in or around the brain. Always seek medical care. You can find out more by enrolling your company in one of our First Aid courses at: www.stayinalivewithfirstaid.ca
TIP 81) CHEST INJURIES CAN LEAD TO TWO CONDITIONS THAT CAN MAKE BREATHING DIFFICULT: PNEUMOTHORAX AND HEMOTHORAX A PNEUMOTHORAX IS: a condition in which AIR enters the chest cavity from the wound site but doesnt enter the lung. The air in the chest cavity presses against the lung, causing it to collapse. A HEMOTHORAX IS : a condition in which blood accumulates in the chest cavity from the wound site but doesnt get into the lung. Because blood takes up space in the chest... cavity, the lung cant expand effectively. You can find out more by enrolling your company in one of our First Aid courses at www.stayinalivewithfirstaid.ca
TIP 70: A TOOTH OR TEETH THAT HAVE BEEN KNOCKED OUT: These can be implanted IF: You preserve the tooth and any tissue fragments left on the tooth, by putting the tooth in milk, if available or water and keep it with the person. If there is no milk or water wrap the tooth in a clean cloth and keep moist with the persons own saliva. REMEMBER YOU HAVE 1 HOUR BEFORE THE TOOTH CANT BE IMPLANTED. So keep a record of the time. Full details of how this works can be learned in our classes. Contact us today to register your business in one of our First Aid classes at: www.stayinalivewithfirstaid.ca
TIP 40: A STROKE HAPPENS WHEN: the blood flow to the brain gets interrupted: WHAT TO LOOK FOR: FAST FACE - Facial numbness or weakness especially on one side. ARM Arm numbness or weakness, especially on one side. SPEECH Slurred speech or difficulty speaking or ... understanding. TIME time is important; call 911 immediately. Please go to our website: www.stayinalivewithfirstaid.ca to arrange training for your company.
