From the collection. Eric Atkinson was born in 1928 in Hartlepool, England. He was the head of Fine Art Department at Leeds College of Art, Yorkshire 1963-69 until he moved to Canada to Chair Fanshawe College Fine Art. He was Dean, Faculty of Applied Arts, Fanshawe College until 1982, and then Professor, Fine Art Department until he retired in 1994. Atkinson has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions and in extensive public and corporate collections locally, nationally and internationally. #contemporarypainting #arteducationmatters

Elgin residents may make rental arrangements on the first Wednesday of each month from 7-9 p.m." Marguerite R. Buckland (née Warren) of St. Thomas passed away at Toronto Grace Health Centre on Monday, January 4, 2021. Beloved wife for 54 years to the late F. M. "Pat" Buckland (2014). Dearly loved mother of Shirley Ann Smith (Craig), and David W. Buckland (Lisa). Cherished grandmother of Charlotte, Maggie and Jessica Smith. Dear sister of Shirley L. Grant (late Gordon), late John E. Warren (late Florence), and the late L. Alan Warren (late Meta). Also fondly remembered by sister-in-law, Jane Femmel as well as several nieces and nephews. Born in Orillia, ON, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Lorena (née Wiser) Warren. A resident of St. Thomas since 1961, Marguerite previously lived in Stratford, Toronto, and Windsor. She joined her husband in building Buckland Customs Brokers Limited, St. Thomas for a number of years, and previously was employed by Bell Canada as a groundbreaking female Administration Manager. Marguerite was a member of the former Trinity Anglican Church, St. Thomas, having served on the Parish Council Board. She was a member of the Women's Committee of the St. Thomas-Elgin Public Art Centre, a Past Finance Chairperson of the YWCA St. Thomas-Elgin, and a former member of the St. Thomas Golf & Country Club and St. Thomas Curling Club. Marguerite and Pat cherished time with family and friends at their cottage on Lake Rosseau at Windermere and at their winter residence in St. Petersburg, Florida. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A private service to celebrate Marguerite's life will be held. Private interment of her cremated remains will be made in the Old St. Thomas Churchyard, Walnut St. Memorial donations to the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital Foundation, the YWCA St. Thomas-Elgin, Toronto Grace Health Centre or the charity of one's choice will be gratefully acknowledged. Arrangements entrusted to the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160). Online condolences graciously accepted at www.siftonfuneralhome.com

Coming soon to the St. Thomas Elevated Park. This bright piece of art, titled May Woods with Trilliums, by Lloyd Johnston, is in the permanent collection of the... St. Thomas-Elgin Public Art Centre and will soon be on view at the Elevated Park as part of the Art, Trees and Trails project. Funded by the estate of Donna Vera Evans Bushell and the Elgin St. Thomas Community Foundation, some 10 pieces of art will be on display throughout our park and trail. Expect to see this one on the eastern approach in late October. See more
