I can ramble, I know this. I have therefore written a short, medium and long version of today's post pick your poison. . Long story short, I bought a new sewing machine today. . Long story medium, I have been making tiny clothes and props for the newborn studio basically since I first launched, and my old sewing machine just couldn't hack it anymore. After planning out several projects this past year that are simply not possible with my current machine, I upgraded.... . Long story long, I bought my first sewing machine (aside from the one I used when I lived at home with my parents) over a decade ago. It cost less than $100 and could essentially do two things - sew a straight stitch and a zig-zag stitch. It has made a lot of Halloween costumes, newborn props, and general repairs over the years, but being an entry level machine, it wasn't built very well and it therefore started constantly malfunctioning. A long chat while walking Kaylee later, and a new machine was researched, ordered, and picked up from a local store - yay! . All of this to say, if you need me, I will be trying to figure out what all these buttons do. Because of how long we dated before we got married, Dave and I actually have two anniversaries. There is our wedding anniversary in September, but before that there was our dating anniversary. The two dates are nearly 9 years apart and today happens to be our dating anniversary as we have been together for 17 years! It was 17 years ago that Chris made me tell Dave that I liked him over that now extinct messaging service. And it was 17 years ago when I returned home from m...y physics lab to find Dave waiting for me in my dorm suite to say he also liked me. And it it is 17 years ago when we spent literally the entire night talking. We were so young then, and couldn't possibly have known where our lives would take us, but right from the very beginning we both knew that we would be spending it together. Happy Anniversary Sweety! And as an extra special treat for all of you - I have put together an array of photos of us over the last 17 years. Everything from our very first photo together (taken at East Side Mario's by Dave's dad), to our years finishing up school and getting our first place, to our travels together over the years, right up to last year when Dave's family once again took a photo of the two of us (you know for that very brief moment when you could kind of sort of see your family). Did I ever tell you guys about Little Ella's cake smash? No, oh boy, I have to because it was a good one. . This little sweetheart, with her beautiful big brown eyes and giant head of hair, was such a little darling during her photos with Mom and Dad. But the second that cake came out she was really questioning everything. .... A quick swipe through these shows the progression from 'what's this?', to 'I don't like this', to 'Mom, I really don't like this, save me, save me!'. . My first website definitely had that cliché term about capturing my school days as a means to not be in the photos myself. I was awkward and weird and didn't like a single photo of myself. So why would I want to be in front of the lens? . But as I started my professional career in photography, I quickly learned that my awkwardness, and discomfort when having my photo taken was actually a giant advantage for my clients! This shot isn't really possible at all wedding days, but when the lighting, location, and timing (aka if we aren't running behind) all work out, I pretty much always love it! . Little Ella showed up for her session a little sleepy, but somehow it still only took about 2 minutes before she was showing off those beautiful smile and her amazing walking skills! When I first reached out to Kate and her team about this styled shoot, I had an image in mind. Not only for the shoot as whole, but one particular image I so badly wanted to capture and it had everything to do with this super long veil. . I think I mentioned the veil in literally every email I sent as we planned the day (and by we, I mean Kate and her team as they really did all the leg work in finding the perfect vendors to create this beyond stunning shoot). Wanna see a (mostly) Halloween costume fail? Keep swiping because this little Padawan got her very first costume (we didn't get her one last year) and it was definitely too small!! . But I mean, the photos with the tiny little felt pumpkin on her paws makes up for it right?! . Either way, she's still a pretty darn adorable little Jedi, if I do say so myself. ... . Also, don't worry, the costume wasn't so small that it hurt her in any way whatsoever, and she got lots of treats during her mini photo shoot. Especially since she actually hates Dave's lightsaber. When Rebecca + Keith emailed me to introduce their new baby girl, I must admit I was stumped for a second. They shared her name and it definitely took me a second to figure out how to pronounce it. This was one of my very first flay lays ever. This was years before the details suitcase (or even its predecessor - the detail duffle bag), and even longer before I started educating brides on what to have ready for me at bridal prep. . I had a few extra minute with her dress, sash and earrings (the only details I was given for the morning) and I noticed that the back of her dress flowed nicely onto the very clean floor, so I put this together. . I remember being so... incredibly happy with myself from the moment I clicked the shutter. So happy that I used it on my website and in promo material for quite some time. Don't get me wrong, I still think it is a great shot, but to me it also shows how much we have grown and changed since these days. . If you haven't quite noticed just yet, I LOVE my prism photos!! But they are tricky folks. I mean, each side of the prism reflects a different angle around you (above, below, etc.) and then each of those sides can be tilted again to create even more options. . It has taken me some time to be able to foresee a little bit of what will be reflected but every time I use it I end up with so many options that it often becomes hard to choose which are the best to share online.... . When we were planning our own wedding, we spent a fair amount of time figuring out how we could actually spend time with our friends + family throughout the day. . It was super cold as we drove down the windy, dirt roads after Melanie + Michael's wedding, but we still had the windows down. Why you might ask? Because I get car sick fairly easily on super winding, bumpy, hill-y roads and there was no other way to describe the route out from their quite remote wedding location. . Don't get me wrong, it was stunning! So much so in fact, that I didn't get too bothered on the drive up because I was so distracted by the gorgeous Fall colou...rs. We walked back behind the experimental farm greenhouses and found this stunning evening glowy sky. We grabbed some shots walking around the road and nearby grass field and then of course headed to this field of flowers. . And then Damjan thought of the best idea for a photo ever and I was in heaven!!
