Steveston Tram 30.01.2021

A photo to shake off 2020 and take us into the New Year... It's around 1950. Elsewhere in the Lower Mainland, tram lines are beginning to be pulled up. But between Vancouver and Steveston, the tram cars are still going strong. Amateur photographer and tram enthusiast Ted Clark captures a great angle of our Tram Car 1220 on the Vancouver - Marpole line. ... Winter in the Village wraps up in Steveston for another year on December 31. That means Richmond residents have a few more days to explore Steveston's illuminated heritage sites, including the Steveston Tram. It's February 1, 1958. There is only 27 days left before trams stop running on the Steveston - Marpole Line. This is also the end of an era for trams in the Lower Mainland. This is our Tram Car 1220 at Brighouse Station, Richmond. The 1220, along with all the other surviving rolling stock, has been left to run down. Tram Car 1220 looks as exhausted at the thought of its fate as we feel facing the end of 2020. But the 1220 was restored and now resides as the centrepiece at the Steveston Tram. And we will bounce back too.

Just up No.1 Road to the south of the Steveston Tram is the No.1 Road Pump Station. See below to find out why it and the others around Richmond are so important right now.

Women’s war work pins, worn in the 1940s by a resident who was a member of the Red Cross during and after World War II. These pins would have been proudly worn ...to show their contribution to the war effort. #richmondartefact This year the Remembrance Day Committee is encouraging everyone to Remember in Place. BC Culture Days, is now over. Thank you to Jason Sakaki who kindly loaned us his video The Sockeye Special featuring his grandfather and local historian Ron Hyde. That video has now been taken down. We still have a 2-minute video about Ted Clark and Tram Car 1220. An amateur photographer and tram enthusiast, Ted took thousands of tram images in his life time, including many of Tram Car 1220. You can watch the Ted Clark video on the Tram's Facebook page, IGTV channel and we...bsite www.richmond.ca/stevestontram Photo credit: City of Richmond Archives photo 1999 4 2 28. It's May 4, 1957. A young boy stands near Woodwards Station in Richmond. He sees the coupled Tram Cars 1220 and 1223 meet the 1208. Amateur photographer and tram enthusiast Ted Clark captures the moment. There's less than a year left before the trams stop running for good in February 1958. You can see more images like this one in the Steveston Tram's BC Culture Days 2-minute video "Ted Clark & Tram Car 1220". It's pinned to the top of our Facebook page, on our IGTV channel,... and on our website https://www.richmond.ca/stevestontram Want to see even more tram images? Ted Clark was a passionate lover of trams, trains, and streetcars and an amateur photographer. During his life, he photographed thousands of rail images across the Lower Mainland, including the documenting the end of the tram car era. This 2-minute video looks at some of the images Ted took of Tram Car 1220 in the 1940s and 1950s. Tram Car 1220 is showcased at the #StevestonTram. This video was made to help celebrate #CultureDays virtually in 2020.
