SJA Kitchener-Waterloo is very excited to announce that it is offering the non-certified Home Caregivers Workshop this fall, based on A Caregivers Guide published by the Order of St. Lazarus of Jerusalem and the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association. The course is a combination of an online-theoretical component and one in-person practical session of 3 hours. In the practical session good body mechanic techniques and infection control will be taught.... Participants learn about transfers (lifting, turning, positioning and moving) and how to provide personal care (bathing, toileting, bed sore prevention) demonstrated on a manikin. We will talk about Caregivers stress, prevention of burnout and how to find help. There is time put aside to discuss local resources and ask questions as well. We strongly recommend that you complete the online theoretical components of the program prior to attending the in-person practical workshop if you can. The online version is free of charge. Follow the link here: (http://stlazarus.sjatraining.ca) The price for the practical session is $25 administrative fee, which includes the Caregivers Guide and an optional Golf shirt. The course will be offered with Covid- restrictions and with public health practices in place. We ask that you sign a Covid declaration when registering for the course. Date: November 22nd 2-5 pm December 8th 6-9 pm Place: KW- branch. 250 Gage Ave, Kitchener ON Register Online: https://www.sja.ca/English/Pages/default.aspx It can be found under HCSP - Physical Needs Over Phone (519)-579-6285 Please note: Program participants should be aware that the risk to their vulnerable family members increases when attending any in-person training held outside of their own home. While SJA has rigorous safety protocols in place to promote safety, we cannot guarantee a risk-free environment. We worry about your family and their safety as much as you do. We encourage you to practice diligence with Public Health guidelines for physical distancing, wearing a mask, and hand hygiene
