We are happy to announce that Re-New Creation St. Luke's Thrift Shop will re-open, and St. Luke's Lunch-to-Go will resume, on February 18th. following all pandemic protocols required, including capacity limits. Curb-side pickup will still be available. Because of space limitations, please call ahead before bringing any donations.

Lent will begin next Wednesday, February 17th. Since we cannot be together in person for our usual worship, we have prepared ash crosses from last year's palms..., on 'sackcloth.' They will be mailed out tomorrow to folks on our member lists for whom we have mailing addresses, so you'll hopefully have them in time for Ash Wednesday. If you're not sure if we have your address and would like to receive a cross, with the accompanying devotion, please send us a private message or call us. We invite your prayers for Rev. Maude Parsons-Hörst, a former priest of this diocese now living in Edmonton. Maude has been admitted to hospital with a particularly aggressive form of cancer and is currently in palliative care. Maude and her husband Rev. Ron Hörst served in some of the parishes of what is now Leeds Anglican Ministries from 1996 - 2003.

So awesome to see Wendy's Country Market highlighted on the Marilyn Denis show! The segment that shows Wendy starts just after the 30:00 minute mark. During this Season of Creation, it is especially timely in promoting sustainable, adaptive, local farming. Wendy has been a great supporter of St. Luke's Leeds and we are delighted she's receiving recognition from a wider audience.

What a joy, on 'Wilderness' Sunday in the Season of Creation, to worship on the lawn at St. Paul's Anglican Community Centre in Delta! Despite the chilly forecast, the weather was lovely and there was plenty of room to spread out. For those who are concerned about gathering in buildings, we are planning one more outdoor worship service - next Sunday at the lawn at Hotel Kenney.

Harvest Thanksgiving week is a wonderful time to launch this new ministry - beginning October 15, 2020:

"Asked by the BBC to identify the defining moment in his life Desmond Tutu spoke of the day he and his mother were walking down the street. Tutu was nine years ...old. A tall white man dressed in a black suit came towards them. In the days of apartheid in South Africa, when a black person and a white person met while walking on a footpath, the black person was expected to step into the gutter to allow the white person to pass and nod their head as a gesture of respect. But this day, before a young Tutu and his mother could step off the sidewalk the white man stepped off the sidewalk and, as they passed, he tipped his hat in a gesture of respect to her! The white man was Trevor Huddleston, an Anglican priest who was bitterly opposed to apartheid. It changed Tutu’s life. When his mother told him that Trevor Huddleston had stepped off the sidewalk because he was a "man of God," Tutu found his calling. When she told me that he was an Anglican priest I decided there and then that I wanted to be an Anglican priest too. And what is more, I wanted to be a man of God said Tutu. Huddleston later became a mentor to Desmond Tutu and his commitment to the equality of all human beings due to their creation in God’s image a key driver in Tutu’s opposition to apartheid." My prayer on this Friday is that we can all strive to be "people of God" who are willing to "step off the sidewalk" and "tip our hat" to our sisters and brothers, particularly those on the margins. Today we commemorate the Birth of St. John the Baptist, the namesake of St. John's Leeds (Sweets Corners). Due to COVID-19 pandemic protocols, we cannot gather for our traditional patronal festival and cemetery memorial.
