St. Margaret's Anglican Church 13.11.2020

In a moment in which we are increasingly reliant on online formats for our spiritual wellbeing, St. Margaret's is pleased to announce two new pages on our website. The first, a "Writings" section, will be dedicated to formal essays and pieces. The first series is entitled "Theology in a Time of Crisis" by David Widdicombe. It can be accessed here: http://www.saintmargarets.ca/writings. The second is a staff blog entitled "The Westminster Review". We currently have three blog ...posts, by Bonnie Dowling, Tracy Curle, and Graham MacFarlane. It can be accessed here: http://www.saintmargarets.ca/st-margarets-blog. We hope the works on both pages will supplement your ecclesiological participation in these trying times.

The following email was sent to the St. Margaret's parishioners earlier today. If you would like to join the email list, please contact [email protected]. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Friends, ... We are thinking of you all and remembering you in our prayers. We have also been thinking of ways to stay connected, and to continue to do the work of the church in this time, beginning with plans for worship. Here are three significant parts of our plan: 1) Sunday Worship: On Sundays at 10:30am and 7:00pm, a very small group of worship leaders will conduct a worship service on behalf of the whole congregation, alternating between the Holy Eucharist and Morning/Evening Prayer. These worship services will be relayed over a live audio feed. Details on how to access the audio feed are forthcoming; your patience will be appreciated as we figure out the technological side of this endeavour. 2) Praying the Daily Offices: We encourage you to take up a discipline of prayer through the saying of the Daily Offices (Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer, Compline) throughout the week. The Offices have been uniting Anglicans across time and space for centuries. We have attached electronic copies of our service booklets as guides. (And note: one can always simply say the parts of the liturgy which are often sung.) The Offices may also be found in the Book of Common Prayer (Morning Prayer: p.1; Evening Prayer: p. 17; Compline: p. 722). If you would like a Book of Common Prayer dropped off at your home, please write to [email protected]; we would be happy to make a delivery. It can also be accessed at https://www.bcponline.org/. For Daily Scripture reading passages please see this calendar of Daily Lectionary Readings. We will send a weekly email with the Scripture readings for the coming Sunday as well as the Sunday Collect and resources from Tracy Curle for children & families. You will also find a selection of Occasional Prayers from the Book of Alternative services attached, which you may find useful. 3) Holy Week: With permission from the Bishop, we have decided to celebrate Easter with our Orthodox Brothers and Sisters this year, according to the Julian Calendar. This means that we will celebrate Easter Sunday on April 19th. In addition to being an exciting ecumenical opportunity, this will give us more time to plan how we attend to the mysteries of Holy Week in our altered circumstances. We are also working on ways to continue to offer pastoral care in our community. We will write to you with more details about this tomorrow. For now, if you are aware of a pastoral concern please contact pastoral staff through the office email: [email protected] or leave a message through the church voicemail (204-774-9533), both of which are checked regularly. Yours in Christ, The St. Margaret’s Staff
