Looking for something a little in different in a church? Check out St. Mark's Saturday evening service at 5:00 pm. This week's music features Saturday Band Leader and guitarist Brad Jefford and the soulful voice of Michelle Eagles. The liturgy is something new that we've been experimenting with from the Iona Community in Scotland. ... It's Reign of Christ the King this weekend so our sermon will be a conversation exploring what kind of king and what kind of reign do we mean when we talk about Jesus as king. Pre-register for this service by calling 726-3213 or email [email protected] by Friday at 12:00 pm.

if you’re anything like myself, you were very disappointed by the treatment of striking Dominion workers at the hands of Loblaws, but feel helpless to do anything that would make much of a difference for these essential, low-waged workers. A boycott of Dominion stores would only put vulnerable employees at more risk for fewer hours and reduced wages. On Friday at 12:00 p.m. on Facebook Live I will be joined by Father Mark Nichols from the $15 & Fairness Campaign to launch a special Advent project to mobilize meaningful change, not only for Dominion workers, but for all workers who deserve a living wage. Rev. Robert

As with everything else, Covid-19 is impacting our Christmas outreach. Due to Covid restrictions we are unable to gather to serve Cal’s Community Christmas Din...ner and neither will we be collecting food items that mean close contact to pack and deliver. Our outreach this Christmas season will focus on collecting monetary donations that will go toward the purchase of gift cards for our hamper recipients, Association for New Canadian clients and also our neighbours next door in Logy Bay Manor, who will not be able to avail of our community dinner. This will look much the same as our Family Food Initiative. Please note, we are not collecting gift cards - only donations toward the purchase of gift cards. By purchasing the gift cards in bulk our neighbourhood Coleman’s gives us a discount, which means more gift cards, enabling us to help your gift help more people. To donate visit www.stmarksanglican.ca, email money transfer [email protected], or call 726-3213. See more

Due to the Electoral Synod this Saturday, November 28, there will be no Saturday worship. Please keep episcopal candidates and synod delegates in your prayers that we would all be attentive to the guidance of the Holy Spirit in this time of discernment.

St. Mark’s is super excited to partner with Ian Foster and Nancy Hynes for their Christmas show again this year. You can purchase tickets for the St. Mark’s show via Ian’s website or through the parish office. Here’s what Ian and Nancy have to say about this year’s tour ... This year is different. We all know it but keep saying it. It’s different for everyone, and for us touring musicians, it means not being out on the road, performing and connecting with you.... So, this year, we decided to do something different. A livestreambut we wanted it to look and sound REALLY good. Multiple cameras, mics...hey, let's pre-tape it! Then we thought 'if we pre-tape, we can pick a cool location, safely invite some of our friends to perform, too... Pretty soon, we realized we were dreaming up a Digital Christmas Special: Christmas at Home with Ian and Nancy. Shot in downtown St. John's in the taproom of Bannerman Brewery, with baby grand piano in tow, this show is a celebration of what we like to play at Christmas time, and some of the friends we'd spend it with when we normally get home for the holidays. You'll hear us, plus very special guests Jerry Stamp, Melanie O'Brien, Brian Way, and the Laing kids! There are *6* chances to watch! Why? Because we're partnering with some wonderful venues from previous Christmas tours to present a night tailored to their audiences - even though it's pre-taped, we'll be there for the show - on webcam before and after, and in the live chat during. We still want to connect, hear how you've been doing, and make some merry with you. The church shows are also fundraisers for important renos for those buildings and work they're doing in their communities. Have a friend you wish you could bring to a show who lives somewhere else this year? Pick a show, buy a ticket, and attend together. We're still working hard to make something special during these strange times. Hope you'll join us. All ticket details at ianfoster.ca/shows. Happy Christmas!

My dear friends, It is with a very heavy heart that I share with you the sad news that our beloved Bishop, The Rt. Rev. Dr. Geoffrey Curtis Ralph Peddle, passed... away suddenly today October 8, 2020. While this is very painful for us to process at this moment, we are comforted by the grace of God which truly passes all understanding. At this most difficult time, your prayers are asked for Kathy, Adam, Benjamin and all of Bishop Geoff’s family. Also, please keep our Diocesan family in your prayers as we grieve the loss of our Bishop. Let us pray, O HEAVENLY Father, whose Blessed Son Jesus Christ did weep at the grave of Lazarus, his friend: Look, we beseech thee, with compassion upon those who are now in sorrow and affliction; comfort them, O Lord, with thy gracious consolations; make them to know that all things work together for good to them that love thee; and grant them evermore sure trust and confidence in thy fatherly care; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. REST eternal grant unto him, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon him. Amen. In Christ’s Love, Archdeacon Sam Rose Diocesan Administrator

A Letter from our Chancellor, Canon Brad Wicks September 29, 2020 Dear Members of the Diocese,... Grace and Peace in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ. We regret to inform the Diocese that our Diocesan Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Dr. Geoffrey Peddle has been placed on medical leave by his physician for an indefinite period. While we ask that you please keep our Bishop especially in your prayers, we ask that you respect the Bishop’s privacy at this time and refrain from contacting him directly. He is receiving pastoral care from one of our Diocesan clergy. While the Bishop is on medical leave, as per our Diocesan Constitution, Canon 2 section 51. (1) it states that: "51. (1) If the See should fall vacant by reason of the death, resignation, or removal of the Bishop, or in the physical or duly certified mental incapacity of the Bishop, the Bishop's Commissary shall be the Administrator of the Diocese following notification to, and approval having been received from, the Metropolitan." As the See is temporarily vacant due to the Bishop’s incapacity, the Metropolitan of the Ecclesiastical Province of Canada, the Most Rev. David Edwards has been notified and has given approval to appoint the Episcopal Commissary, Archdeacon Sam Rose, to act as the Administrator of the Diocese until Bishop Peddle returns from leave as per the Canon. Yours Canon Bradford Wicks Diocesan Chancellor

Hello everyone, Now that Summer has ended and the beautiful Fall weather is upon us, we’re really looking forward to getting our online auction ready to go. We’re grateful to those of you who’ve either brought in, or committed firmly to bringing in, items. We have some very lovely things so far, both large and small. But we will need a lot more to make up for the shortfall in fundraising due to the pandemic. Some of our reliable donations, such as the house in Florida an...d hockey and basketball tickets are not available to us this year. In case you’re still wondering what you could donate, here’s a list of suggestions: Handmade knitted/sewn goods, Christmas decorations/cards, jewelry, wood crafted/tole painted items Homemade cakes, cookies, candies, jams, jellies, pickles Services or gift cards for services, such as hair or nail salons, spas Gift cards for restaurants, gas, supermarkets, retail stores (these are great because we’re almost guaranteed to get full value) Cash donations to go towards items that can be combined for a themed basket We do ask that any items not homemade be new. Baked goods and other edibles are not needed to be brought in yet, just a firm commitment. Please bring your donations to the church by September 30, but if that’s not possible, contact one of us and we’ll gladly pick them up. Thanks again for all of your support to help make this fundraiser a great success! Please contact the office if you have any questions or to arrange donation drop off at 726-3213 or [email protected].
