Straits Arena is operating under Alert Level 2 for Covid-19. The restrictions for 2020-21 season mean no Minor hockey or Christmas Tournaments. The cancellation... of these events will greatly impact the Arena's ability to raise funds to operate. The canteen and door revenue alone from these tournaments is responsible for 50% of the operational budget for the Arena. 50/50 Draw !! 50/50 Draw !!! In order to recover some of this lost revenue, Straits Arena Assoc, will embark on a 50/50 Draw. This will be our first public fundraiser in a number of years, so hopefully the public will support it. Tickets can be purchased at Arena or online for $5.00 each. 50/50 Draw Update!!! The last couple of days sales have slowed down. We have not reached our goal yet so don't lose momentum now. Come on let's keep it going. Playpro hockey will be hosting camp here this weekend on Friday, Dec 11 and Saturday, Dec 12. Get your kid registered for that. On Dec 19 and Dec 20 we will host our annual 4-on-4 tournament for players Bantam age and older. Sign up sheet is now posted.

General Skating today Saturday Nov 21 at 6:30. Doors open at 6:15. Adm fee is $5.00 for everyone, except kids under 5 skate free. All students must wear a helmet. Masks are mandatory. Please register when you enter the building.

We just finished our Viking Trail hockey tournament. Although we had only three teams, they still provided some good hockey. Games were very competitive and exciting. Congratulations to Kellys Recruits for winning championship. A big pat on the back to the team from St. Anthony, who came and played four straight games and no complaints whatsoever. We appreciate your endurance and suck it up attitude. I hope we treated you well. At this time I would like to thank the officials..., the referees and scorekeepers. These people oftentimes get overlooked and taken for granted. They are a very important part of any hockey game. They don't often get the respect and appreciation they deserve. A big thank you to these people. Another season is winding down. We have a couple of big events coming up. U-15 in March and Midget C in April. I hope to see you at the arena for these events. Minor Hockey, Figure Skating sessions are moving ahead and we also take bookings for rentals and Birthday parties. General Skating will start this coming Saturday, November 21 at 6:30. All students must wear a helmet. Admission fee will be $5.00 for everyone. Everyone must register when they enter the building and wear a mask . Thank you and stay safe.

Yesterday I picked up another couple of volunteers [Tannis and Elva] for the canteen in the 11:00 slot. I now need just a couple of ladies for the 4:00-6:30 slot. Come on there must be a couple ladies at that time of day with a couple of hours to spare. Give me a call at the arena. Thanks to those ladies who have volunteered so far.

There's some exciting news around the arena today. We just learned we will be hosting Midget "C" for Easter. This news along with the announcement a few days ago that we would be hosting the U-15 Female Provincial on March 27-29 makes for an exciting spring here at Straits Arena. Looking forward to some good hockey, especially since the home teams will be competitive in both divisions. Now a reminder that the Viking Trail Tournament is on this Saturday, Feb. 22. I still need... a few canteen workers. Brenda Gould has volunteered for the 11:00-1:30 slot, so I need 1 more there. The 1:30-4:00 slot is covered by Tammy Eddision and Joni Diamond. That leaves the 4:00 -6:30 slot with no one. I am sure there is someone out there with a couple hours to spare so please call the arena and book your time. Just a reminder that the Viking Trail Hockey Tournament is scheduled for the weekend of Feb 22-23. Open to all teams on Northern Pen and Labrador Straits and Lower North Shore, Quebec. The JCP project is coming to an end, just one more week to go.The workers have done an excellent job. All outlined tasks will be completed. There was some issue with paint but hopefully that is taken care off now. We have recieved lots of positives comments about the job. WELL DONE!!! Selects vs Polars Friday, Jan. 24 @ 8:00 Straits Arena

Well I cant believe it, I made a mistake yesterday in my posting. Yesterday I posted Selects play Polars on Friday, Jan 23 and Midget tournament on Saturday, Jan 24. I must clarify. Selects verses Polars will be Friday, Jan. 24 and Midget tournament Saturday, Jan 25. You see I had the days right but was looking at an old calendar, so not really a mistake just a misread on my part.... Ok all clear now, so come out on Friday and watch the Selects take it to the Polars at 8:00.

On Friday, Jan. 23 @ 8:00 the Straits Selects will face off with the St. Anthony Polars for Game 3. The series is tied 1-1 with each team winning on home ice. This is shaping up to be a close and exciting series. Come out to Straits Arena and support your team. On Saturday, Jan. 24, Straits Arena will host an U-18 [Midget] Tournament. Teams from St. Anthony, Blanc Sablon and Straits will battle it out for Gold. Game 1 starts at 10:00. See you at the arena for some fast excit...ing hockey. Some of the best young players in the area will be on display. Now an update on the Business Fundraising Drive. On Saturday, Jan 18 Straits/Twin Towns PeeWees will play two games with St Anthony PeeWees at 10:00 [Game 1] and 12:30 [Game 2] At 11:15 -12:15 Straits Atoms will play Black against White for a practise session. General skating will be at 6:30. General skating has been a major disappointment this year so far, very low participation. If more bodies don't come out then we will have to cancel this activity. The Viking Trail mens hockey tournament is scheduled for Feb. 22 & 23.... I noticed this falls on same date as Novice ll In-house tourney was scheduled. The parent reps and myself need to work out an alternate date for this. See me soon. The Business Drive keeps adding on to the list of donations. Viking Trail Mens Hockey Tournament Straits Arena Feb. 22 &23 Midget age and older Open Invitation to all teams in area.

Just finished the Bantam tournament, it went very well. Both the Straits teams made it to championship game. Some exciting hockey at times. Then I stayed around for General Skating. Now that is an issue for sure.So far this season the most I have collected for General skating is $47.00. I'm not sure if the time, Saturday @6:30, is a bad time or what. I am open to other times if that would work better. Sundays at 6:00 may be an option if people like to try that, I am ok with i...t.I can't continue to do this if people don't want, and I know there is a few who wants to come. Open to suggestions. We are back after the Christmas break, and an extra bit longer for me.Minor hockey is in full swing now with a Bantam Tournament scheduled for Saturday, January 11, starting at 8:30. On Friday, Jan. 10 the Selects will face off against the Polars at 7:30. This will be a best 4-out-of 7 series.So come out and support the home team.
