Back-to-school is always a busy stressful time of year as kids, parents and teachers transition back to regular bedtimes, routines, homework, extra-curricular a...ctivities and new environments. These adjustments can be stressful, especially when combined with navigating the changes to our fall schedule by Covid-19. Fortunately, there are several natural ways you can decrease stress, stay healthy and hopefully have a successful start to school! 1. Make a nutritious, balanced diet a priority. Teaching kids at a young age the importance of healthy eating habits can make a lasting impression on health. Emphasize avoiding processed foods, and eating plenty of fruits, veggies, lean protein and whole grains. Limit sugar! See list below for nutrient rich foods. 2. Supplements which can increase overall health. Vit D, Vit C, Zinc, Probiotics and Quercetin are the top 5 supplements we recommend for overall back to school health and wellness. Please speak to the doctors about individual supplementation needs and dosages. 3. Hydration. Our bodies are composed of 60% water and all of our bodily functions such as digestion, detoxification, brain function and waste removal require water. Keeping a water bottle with you through out the day will help you consume adequate amounts of water to maintain overall health. 4. De-stress!!! Kids, parents and teachers are all under a lot of stress right now, which affects the body and decreases overall health. Prioritizing self-care right now is so important! Find ways you and your children can de-stress such as spending time outdoors, journaling (written or drawing), physical exercise, walking, coffee with friends, taking a bath, playing a game etc. Stress contributes to many major health problems. Often, we can’t avoid stress but we can learn how to manage it.
