Halloween is approaching. The time of the year where candy and chocolate seem impossible to avoid. Four mini chocolate bars are equivalent to one full-size candy bar. It is very easy to overindulge. Just because they are small doesn’t mean they aren’t loaded with sugar and calories. Be mindful! Some tips/ideas:1 Don’t buy the treats you are handing out early. Wait until Halloween or the day before.... 2 Leftovers: get rid of them. Is it a waste if it’s not meeting your health & nutrition goals. Try not to bring into the office. Corporate culture already struggles with mindless snacking. 3 If you have to have some in the house, put it out of sight so you are not constantly tempted by it. 4 Do not eat any of the candy. Zero. How good will you feel if you navigate the entire chocolate & candy filled day and do not eat any of it? Craving hits push-up or squat. Keeping Our Kids in mind options: Trading candy for another type of treat (toy, outing they would enjoy, money, etc.). Having them select their favourites (choose a number like 20) and maybe have a chat about the importance of not overindulging in sugar? They need to learn as well. Health is a lifestyle. Do you struggle to hold a solid 1 minute plank? Last week our Core Class did 5 x 1 minute planks as their rest in between our Core intervals. Laura & Phil, who have been coming to Core Class regularly since March rocked Planksgiving no problem. They probably could’ve done it weighted!!... In fact, Phil repeats the same Core programming two additional times per week....partly for fun, but mostly because he has seen the benefits in both his workouts and in life! We continue to rock outdoor workouts. Keep in mind your workout attire as the weather gets colder. Some tips:... 1. Dress in layers - Base layer: next to your skin should be a ‘wick away’ material to keep you dry - avoid cotton as it sticks to the body when we sweat) - Warm layer: in the middle keeping in our body heat (ie sweater) - Outer layer: Weather shielding on top (ie wind breaker) 2. Wear a hat - we lose 20% of our heat through our head 3. Wear gloves - check out our newsletter for our recommendation Cold weather doesn’t have to stop us. Join Line tonight for a special Deep Stretch Yoga class,AT THE WALL EDITION! Using the wall is a great way to support the body if you’re feeling fatigued, or if you’re looking for a gentle practice. But using the wall is also helpful if you have some physical barriers that limit mobility in seated postures. You will need to set the short edge of your mat perpendicular to the wall (so like a T) with a bit of space on each side. ... Here’s what people are saying about a wall class: "I love this class because it lets gravity do the work giving you a big stretch and at the same time relaxing as you are on your back. "I loved the wall class because I’m tight in the hips and not very flexible in my lower back and it gives me an alternative way to get that good stretch.
