While our community is again in lockdown, the risk for women experiencing domestic violence has never been higher. Women trapped with their abusers in isolation for months has led to historic rates of violence. Lawyer and advocate Pamela Cross says, a woman will leave an abusive relationship 12 times before she stays out for good. But I want to change the discourse from, ‘Why don't women leave’ or ‘Why do women keep going back,’ to ‘Why does he keep abusing?’ #changetheconversation #changethenarrative #BeMoreThanABystander #StopTheViolence #violenceagainstwomen #womensupportingwomen #bystanderintervention https://www.ctvnews.ca/video?clipId=2077053&jwsource=cl

Good vs Bad emotions. Emotions are natural, but we can be overcome quickly by them. Learning to catch distorted thoughts helps to balance and ultimately change negative emotions. #regulatingemotions #emotionalintelligence #emotionalhealth #emotion #cbttherapy #balancedlifestyle #anxietyrelief #anxietysupport #negativeemotions #positivethinking #positivethoughts

The wise words of Dr. Jean Clinton: All practitioners know that normal child development entails more than the attainment of physical milestones: that physical and emotional development are inseparable, but issues such as attachment and emotional self-regulation are more subtle and not always addressed...Parents need to understand that the way they interact with their children and the way they look, laugh and play with them, have a drastic and tangible effect on the development of the brain. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/p/articles/PMC2807811/pdf/pch1 4671.pdf

Domestic violence is still placing many women and children are at risk of harm. This is why it is so important for family law professionals to distinguish between high conflict cases involving alienation and cases of domestic violence.

This is truly the best signature I have ever seen. It’s true that our culture has become one of immediacy. No one should have that kind of access to you except your closest family and friends. If you haven’t yet watched The Social Dilemma on Netflix, take the time. While it is sobering and frightening, all of us who are parents have the most to worry about. Parents are frequently seeking services for their children these days as they recognize signs of anxiety and depression. They ask, why does it seem as though our children struggle more with mental health issues than the generation before them. Herein lies the answers to why it is different than your childhood, a...s social media gained traction between 2003-2005. Here are statistics from studies in the last two years, and a clip of The Social Dilemma speaking about the concerns. 66% is the increase in the risk of suicide-related outcomes among teen girls who spend more than 5 hours a day (vs. 1 hour a day) on social media. After nearly two decades in decline, high depressive symptoms for 13-18 year old teen girls rose by 65% between 2010-2017 (Twenge, J. M., Joiner, T. E., Rogers, M. L., & Martin, G. N., 2018. Clinical Psychological Science) A longitudinal study of several thousand adolescents indicated that their level of social media usage was a significant predictor of their depression levels over the course of 4 years. For every increased hour spent using social media, teens show a 2% increase in depressive symptoms. (Boers, E., Afzali, M. H., Newton, N., & Conrod, P., 2019. JAMA Pediatrics )

The Harvard Center on the Developing Child and the National Scientific Council on the Developing Child release a major body of research about the connection between early life experiences and later health outcomes. The science of Adverse Childhood Experiences, or ACEs, becomes a unifying framework for community conversations on issues related to early childhood experiences and later physical and mental health outcomes, including addiction. Learning about the brain in such a way that we understand the impact of trauma is important in all the work we do with people - which includes child on permanency journeys or children experiencing alienation in a custody and access dispute. The training is free and completely accessible. Learn these important concepts and become Brain Story Certified.
