Greetings from my neighbourhood! Stay safe, stay home.

During this unprecedented world crisis you may be having trouble getting a decent night's sleep. Experts recommend 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise weekly to help you sleep better. That is only 22 minutes PER DAY!! And that doesn't have to be all at once. So if you are lazing on the couch all day watching tv, and then not able to sleep, please try getting up in between episodes of Tiger King and walking around your neighbourhood, or up and down all the stairs in your house a couple of times, or even just around the room, depending on your level of mobility. #letsstayhealthy

Health Care Practitioners, like RMTs, do this anyway, but this is an excellent video to show you how to THOROUGHLY wash your hands!

a little corny massage humour to announce that I am back at work after being off several months with an injury! I am all healed up, and am easing back into doing appointments. Please contact me if you wish to book a session. Thank you for your patience!

Massage therapy can be so helpful during all stages of pregnancy. We will take a complete medical history to ensure a safe treatment, and work within the comfort level of the patient. And no, once you start 'showing', you will not have to lie face down! Massage therapy works great with the patient lying on her side, with lots of pillows. Contact me with any questions or to book an appointment.

When people ask me what type of massage therapy I do in my clinic, my answer is usually "I treat a lot of clients with chronic pain". I enjoy working closely with each client to determine their needs, and how massage can help. Chronic pain is often defined as any pain lasting more than 12 weeks. Whereas acute pain is a normal sensation that alerts us to possible injury, chronic pain is very different. Chronic pain persistsoften for months or even longer. If you or someone you know is experiencing persistent pain, please contact me.

People are often surprised when I point out that carrying around a purse every day could be causing their neck pain! Some of our daily habits could be at the root of many of our aches and pains. I really enjoy this detective work aspect of being a Massage Therapist. I won't tell you to stop wearing high heels, but I can help your poor feet feel happier again with a good massage or reflexology session. Book yours today!

As I have been encouraging you for many years.....Get moving! It has been found that transitioning from sitting to standing every 30 minutes can significantly reduce fatigue levels and low back pain. More studies, and info in this short article: https://secure.rmtao.com//the_benefit/get_up,_stand_up.htm

This article shares videos of several excellent stretches to address piriformis syndrome (which is often misdiagnosed as sciatica), hip pain, and low back pain. As always, it is important to be warm before you stretch any tissues. http://healthy-life-box.com/10-piriformis-stretches-help-g/

Lucky enough to have the Canadian Massage Conference in Burlington every year! Ever wonder how RMTs learn new modalities and techniques? Here are over 100 in one room learning about a form of Myofascial Release... one of the largest hand-on classes I have ever taken.

This month marks my 20th anniversary as a Massage Therapist! Only about 10% of RMTs in Ontario have over 20 years experience, and I count myself very lucky to have survived this long in a challenging, yet very rewarding career.

In my capacity as a Registered Massage Therapist, I am required to complete continuing education, as are all medical professionals included in the Regulated Health Professions Act of Ontario. I just spent a fantastic 2 days at a course learning about Microcurrent Point Stimulation (MPS). I am excited about incorporating this modality into my therapy appointments. MPS can treat acute and chronic injuries, as well as address overall health issues. And I am most eager to sta...rt using it to treat your SCARS... all scars: new, old, big, small. Even though you may not even remember you have that old scar from falling off your bike at 9 years old, or your c-section scar doesn't bother you in any way.... please let me treat them!! You may be surprised how much those scars are affecting your health and your body! Contact me today to book an appointment See more

April is Daffodil Month, which was designed to raise funds for life-saving cancer research, and provide information and support services for cancer patients and their families. Massage therapy can help relieve the symptoms of pain and anxiety for cancer patients. The Canadian Cancer Society provides an overview of the use of massage therapy for cancer patients. If you know anyone who is currently undergoing cancer treatment, do suggest to him/her to see a Registered Massage Therapist. Many RMTs (including me) have taken additional training in how to accommodate the needs of cancer patients. Many people also find Reflexology, or Reiki very helpful.

Research into the effects of massage therapy are showing very positive results, including this analysis of multiple studies on how trained Massage Therapists can assist with pre- and post-operative healing. Later this month, I am taking a course on MPS: Microcurrent Point Stimulation and I am very excited about using this modality to work on clients' scars! More on this subject in a few weeks!
