Between the uniform rows... There is a lot of pressure in the market garden world (and agriculture in general) to have very clean fields. My relationship to weeds has shifted this summer as I've watched our fields be taken over by them due in large part to the incredibly wet season we've had, and then to being physically incapable of getting rid of them effectively. Weeds are wonderfully efficient at covering bare soil, and they keep carbon in the ground, where it belongs. One can also "read" weeds to gain information about soil health. I've made a certain peace with weeds this year, and I see and appreciate their design which is to protect the soil. This has led me to realise anew the fundamental importance of soil protection. #weeds #gardenmagic
