Jeannie Coe is Saskatoon's nurse on call - The Nurse Practitioner thinks caring for the city's most vulnerable people is an honour, not a task. It just feels like a privilege, Coe said. They allow you to help them. It’s the incredible strength that they have that they can’t see themselves. She’s a little bit of a firecracker. She likes to stir things, addictions specialist Dr. Larissa Kiesman said of Coe. She’s not afraid to stand up and speak for people.
We know these are times of high stress and anxiety for registered nurses and your frontline colleagues. It’s more important than ever to safeguard your mental wellness. Remember: no matter where you are or what you’re going through, you don’t have to go through it alone. #BellLetsTalk A few resources: https://www.camh.ca//mental-/information-for-professionals... https://ca.portal.gs/ https://letstalk.bell.ca/en/covid-19
Registered nurses are tough as nails, but we often forget to care for ourselves. As we battle this pandemic, it’s more important than ever to take care of ourselves, and each other. CFNU is inviting you to a FREE webinar by Homewood Health, especially designed for health care workers looking to learn coping strategies to safeguard their mental health during COVID-19 and beyond.
Zambory said most members have no idea when they’ll be eligible for vaccination, or who they can even ask in order to plan it out.
[SUN President] says if more aggressive measures aren’t implemented, the healthcare system is not going to be able to function. What are we going to do when our loved ones need the hospital - for any reason, not just COVID?
Sask. health-care system risks being 'knocked out' by COVID surge: Nurses union "The fear is that we're going to lose control, that the health-care system is going to be we're going to be not just down on our knees but we're going to be knocked out," SUN President, Tracy Zambory said. "We're going to see more deaths and we're going to have no choice but to have a month-long shutdown that will do more than harm the economy. It will completely flatten it." ... She called on the premier to "show leadership" and implement stricter public health measures. On Monday, the province reported 181 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total of active cases to 1,928. Sixty-eight people are in hospital nearly double the 37 in hospital one week prior. https://www.cbc.ca//saskatchewan-nurses-union-covid-concer
439 cases today. 93 in hospital, 21 in ICU. 387 in Manitoba. We are in trouble. We must act now with stronger measures. Nurses union 'horrified' Tracy Zambory, president of the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses, says the increase in cases is more than unsettling for those battling COVID-19 on the front line.... "We are horrified, scared, disappointed and frustrated," said Zambory, adding the union has been calling for tougher measures for weeks. "We cannot wait until we hit a higher number. We are reaching critical mass here." Nurses and other medical professionals are already "exhausted," Zambory said. "They're pushing it as hard as they can every day, because that's what registered nurses do, that's what the front-line caregivers do. We are there for our patients." Zambory said the union is calling on the province to take immediate steps to slow the spread of COVID-19, which could include stoppages where needed, noting there's much at risk if changes aren't made. "The premier needs to take some decisive action and he needs to take it quick," she said. "Our numbers are at a record high and they're only going to continue to grow." https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.5811485
