Addressing gender equality in Canada is not just about closing the gaps between men and women. People experience different barriers depending on many elements of their identity - race, color, gender, ability, sexuality, age, religion and socio-economic realities. True equality means recognizing and meeting people's needs based on their lived experiences.

We are only hours away from saying goodbye to 2020 and bringing in 2021! As we celebrate tonight, we want to reflect on what has probably been one of our most turbulent years in history. Tomorrow, we will begin fresh with new found hope for a healthier and safer 2021.... But before we close out the year, I am hoping that I can count on your support one last time. The holiday season can be an especially challenging time for many. This year however will be especially tough for many women and children who face a higher risk of violence as they potentially spend more time in confinement with their violent partners. Our annual Angel Tree program strives to help make the holidays a little brighter for women and children who benefit from our services. Please give and help us bring cheer to someone who may need it this holiday season.... standwithher.ca/ #standwithher #surreywomenscentre #surrey

In 2014 a task force - the Surrey Vulnerable Women & Girls Working Group (SVWG) came together to assess the community needs as it pertained to understanding and curbing trends in violence on women and girls in our community. They concluded that that women and female youth seem to be making up an increasing proportion of the homeless population [and that] women on the street appear to be suffering more acute health issues, such as addiction, chronic illness and mental illne...ss than their male counterparts. The task force identified 5 areas of action that would help address many of the issues that vulnerable women and girls were facing. These were: Mobile van service to reach women where they were Night time drop-in services for women Night time drop-in services for girls Anti-stigma initiatives Improving access to information Your donations help us meet these goals. https://standwithher.ca/ #SurreyWomensCentre #StandWithHer #EndViolenceAgainstWomen

Today, November 25th is #InternationalDayfortheEliminationofViolenceAgainstWomen. It is also the first day of #16DaysofActivism. Violation against women is a grave violation of basic human rights. Yet statistics show that gender based violence and specifically those targeting women and other marginalized groups are on the rise. Please Give and #StandWithHer. https://standwithher.ca/... Please share this tweet and help us raise awareness over the next 16 days! #standwithher and #OurActionsMatter Together let’s do our part.

This year is like no other. Even before Covid-19, violence against women, girls and gender-diverse people had reached pandemic proportions. And although the voices of activists and survivors continues to reach new heights, more funding and support is necessary to fight this growing pandemic. Please give and show survivors of sexual assault and gender-based violence that you Stand With Her. #StandWithHer #SurreyWomensCentre #Surrey #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #GenderEquality #AllEqual

Today is the Transgender Day of Remembrance, an annual event held on November 20th commemorating and recognizing both the struggles and the resilience of the trans, two-spirit and gender diverse community. The Surrey Women's Centre, as a support service for all survivors of gender-based violence, wishes to recognize this day by remembering those in our community that we have lost, and continuing to fight for those still with us. We provide support services to LGBTQQIA2S+ sur...vivors in our community through community based victim services and counselling programs. If you would like to connect to supports or learn more about our programs, please contact our 24/7 support line at 604-583-1295 .

As we kick-off our annual Stand With Her Campaign, we want to give our donors a chance to contribute to our Angel Tree Program. The program allows generous supporters to sponsor gifts for the Holiday Season that will then be distributed to women or children in our community. Each year, some 500 to 700 women and children have benefitted from this program. This year, we want to ensure that no-one is turned away because of lack of funds, or because of the impact that Covid-19 ha...s on giving. So will you consider your support this year? If yes - then go here to learn how you can support: https://standwithher.ca/
