MASSAGE THERAPY - THE NEW NORMAL - patients will be required to wear a mask the entire time they are in the clinic - please arrive at your appointment wearing a mask (cloth is fine)... - if you do not have a mask, you may purchase a reusable one from me for $7 - if you are unable to wear a mask for medical reasons, I will not be able to treat you until further notice - if you are uncomfortable lying facedown with a mask on, treatment can be done side-lying - all appointments must be booked a minimum of 36 hours in advance - no last minute appointments will be taken - a Covid pre-screening questionnaire will be done via phone 24 to 36 hours prior to your appointment - a second screening will be done at the appointment, including having your temperature taken with an infrared thermometer - if either of these screenings results in a positive test, you will be asked to reschedule your appointment - appointments will be booked at 30 minute intervals to allow for proper disinfecting of the clinic - only 30 and 45 minute appointments will be booked until further notice - the front door will remain locked and will only be opened at your appointment time - if you arrive early, please remain in your car until I open the door - please leave all unnecessary items in your car - bags, phone, etc - please use the washroom prior to arriving at the clinic - for legal reasons, the washroom here will still be available but I would prefer not to have anyone use it - unless the patient is a minor, please come alone to your appointment as only the patient will be allowed inside - you will be required to do a thorough hand sanitization upon entering - cash will still be accepted but no change will be provided so please come with the exact amount owing - preferred payment will be direct billing to insurance companies or e-transfer - debit will still be available - the machine will be covered in plastic wrap that will be changed after every use - patients will still be required to sign consent to treat as well as the Covid questionnaires - all pens will be thoroughly disinfected prior to use

MASSAGE THERAPY UPDATE I would like to thank you for your patience and support over the last two months. These have been confusing times and I would like to clarify as much as I can about Massage Therapy and return to work. On Wednesday May 27th the Ontario Government and the Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health provided a new directive for Regulated Health Professionals that allows for a gradual restart of services to be carried out with adherence to guidance from each he...alth profession’s regulatory college. The directive included Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) under the guidance of the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO). I want to clarify that this announcement was a general statement which means not all Regulated Health Professionals will be opening at the same time or at the same rate. At this time, the CMTO is not expecting RMTs to return to practice if they do not feel it is appropriate or safe to do so. The CMTO is encouraging a limit on the number of appointments by prioritizing patients with essential care needs. Treatment is considered essential when a patient’s overall health or function would considerably decline if treatment were not provided, leading to a significant decrease in quality of life or possibly hospitalization. A Massage Therapist’s first priority is to the health and safety of themselves and their patients, and to ensure that the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks. In my own personal practice, most of my treatments are for wellness and/or maintenance and therefore, although highly beneficial, they are not considered an essential healthcare treatment at this time. Ontario’s State of Emergency has also been extended until June 9th and social distancing protocols are still in effect. We have just begun to receive direction on practices and procedure guidelines, which include 100's of pages of required reading and 11 online courses. These will need to be completed before I can safely re-open. Please remain patient as the implementation of these guidelines, along with the difficulty in obtaining sufficient PPE due to shortages and the preparation of all materials required can be a lengthy process. I will only return to practice when I feel it safe to do so. I will update you further when I can foresee a potential date to begin reopening my own practice; unfortunately, I do not believe this will happen in the month of June. Thank you again for all of your support during this time, Susan

MASSAGE THERAPY UPDATE: Today the Ontario government extended the closure of non-essential businesses for 2 more weeks. With this in mind, the earliest I will be open is Monday June 1 and that will be dependent on government recommendations moving forward. I will keep you updated as that date gets closer and look forward to seeing you when it is deemed safe. Hope you're staying healthy and safe,... Susan

The future of massage therapy?

Susan Murphy, Registered Massage Therapy 12.10.2020

MASSAGE THERAPY UPDATE: The clinic will remain closed as long as Ontario is under a state of emergency, as per my college's requirement and the fact we are not considered an essential service. With this in mind, the earliest I will be open is Tuesday May 19 and that will be dependent on government recommendations moving forward. I will keep you updated as that date gets closer and look forward to seeing you when it is deemed safe. Hope you're staying healthy and safe,... Susan
