This is what bold and transformational climate leadership looks like.

#ECOTIP - Keep your natural birdfeeders around this fall and winter! Seed heads of plants like purple coneflower, brown-eyed Susan, and bee balm, act as natural... birdfeeders leave them standing through fall and winter as a food source for birds. The hollow stems also provide perfect habitat for some insects to lay eggs. Don’t cut or remove them until mid-spring when the eggs have hatched. Thanks Carolinian Canada Coalition for these great tips to help support our local #biodiversity! See more

- Temperature bothers you, plant a tree. - If the rain scares you, plant a tree. - If you like fruits, plant a tree. - If you love birds, plant a tree. - If you... love your lungs, plant a tree. - If you love life, plant a tree. - If you want to save our planet, save the trees. #PlantATree

Thank you Rick Di Lorenzo for featuring the work of our volunteers in Milton Villager! The amazing #pollinator #garden was begun at the Italian Cultural Centre of Milton by MiltonGreen Environmental Association Incorporated, Protect Our Water and Environmental Resources, Field and Stream and vectorIAS. This important work is continued by our volunteers Wendy Roberts, Ian Thompson, Shirley and Jim Steeves, Margaret Beaudette, Leslie Adams, Zyva and Yasser Jaffer and Aymaan C...howdhury. None of this would’ve been possible without the guidance of the amazing Sean James!

On Saturday November 22nd, Milton Transitional Housing (MTH) is hosting Empty Bowls in order to raise awareness for homelessness and food insecurity while allowing students, artists, and restaurants to give back to their communities. MTH has proudly hosted Empty Bowls events in the past. This year, MTH felt that due to social distancing measures in place to fight the spread of COVID-19, it was more important than ever for our community to be able to share a hot meal for a... good cause. For the first time, however, this year much of the event will be on-line. Since its foundation in 1990, Empty Bowls events have supported local initiatives like food banks and shelters. High school art students make bowls which are then used to serve a fundraising meal, and participants get to keep their one-of-a-kind bowl as a token of gratitude for their support. This year, in partnership with Creative Soul Studio and local businesses from across Milton, MTH will be preparing take-home soup kits for participants, a soup cookbook featuring restaurants from across Milton's community, and an online event to bridge the digital divide and provide a space for connection and community in support of this important issue. All proceeds will go directly to supporting MTH clients and programming. Sustainable Milton is proud to have helped with this event and is looking for volunteers who are willing to come out on two dates for activities. Please contact Wendy at [email protected] to sign up and for more details on these volunteer opportunities: The dates are: Friday November 21st at 10 am to help in the kitchen dividing large containers of soup into smaller containers. This activity will likely be 2-3 hours long. The location is 390 Ontario Street North, Unit #3. MTH is also looking for four volunteers (two who can drive and two helpers) to pick up large containers of soup from various locations in Milton and take those to the kitchen location. Saturday November 22nd at 1pm to help hand out the packages of soup. The volunteer opportunity will last about three hours as well and will be at the same location as above.
