She looked through massive rows of books to find the death records of Indigenous children in care of the residential schools, going back to 1900. She found 30,000 death records. Not all were for Indigenous children, but all were for children. Some of the children don't have names.

MANI and COVID-19 The Province of Manitoba has announced that Winnipeg will be moving to a code RED. Out of consideration for the well-being of our volunteers a...nd visitors we have decided to restrict all access to only those preforming essential business functions of MGS until further notice. We are continuing to work from home on the many MGS projects, researching, indexing, writing, and creating new content to be added to MANI, for a revamp of our website https://mbgenealogy.com and providing research services for our clients. For our members, many services will continue remotely, including access for researching through MANI and our KOHA catalogue. Together we understand how your family history is a healthy, calming, fascinating outlet of discovery in our lives, now more than ever. Our dedicated volunteers have contributed thousands of hours to create research resources for your genealogical benefit. While we cannot safely convene in large groups right now, MGS members are actively volunteering from either their home or in limited numbers at the MGS Resource Centre. Manitoba Genealogical Society (MGS) is a provincial charitable organization celebrating over 40 years, contributing to family history services and our valuable heritage community. Your support is appreciated. Please consider making a donation to help support this work. Manitoba Genealogical Society -

The celebration of the end of World War One continued for the next few days throughout the city of Brandon. Brandon College students held a mock war on the camp...uscomplete with snowball ammunition and snow forts. On the north hill the Brandon Mental Health Center was still under very strict quarantine, but held dances for the patients and staff to enjoy along with a huge bonfire that could be seen for miles until the early morning. In the midst of all the celebration there was only a couple of accidents reported; a young Edward Stevenson had his leg run over by a vehicle and was later taken by ambulance to the Brandon General Hospital. Another boy, Phillip Bush, was knocked down from another boy hanging from the side of a passing vehicle, but had no serious injuries. With 29 new Spanish Flu cases reported in Brandon, bringing the new total to over 300 confirmed cases, it was a reminder that the pandemic was still ongoing. The town of Rivers nearby reports that their Mayor, local doctor, and many others are currently battling the Spanish Flu.

I asked the Margaret Cemetery Committee if I could volunteer my time and supplies to repaint the military crosses for all the veterans who served in the Great W...ar and the Second World War. Today I went to the cemetery and spent a few hours redoing them. A good scrub and a couple coats of paint really brightened up all the crosses - which was much needed! The Margaret Cemetery looks beautiful and well kept - and I was so happy to volunteer my time to redo the crosses. It felt good to repaint and liven up the crosses of those who fought in the Wars for Canada. I feel it is the least I can do to commemorate those who served for our freedom. Grandpa Monk’s looks so much better standing with a fresh coat of paint now. Below are pictures of the Veteran’s graves and their repainted crosses. Please feel free to share if you have friends or family with a veteran in Margaret! I hope you enjoy the photos See more
