It is quite concerning how the media and the FDA/Health Canada can attack reputable companies and use scare tactic wording with absolutely NO data to back it up. They create a "frenzy" and when they are proved wrong.... NOTHING at all is communicated? Why has the media not picked up on the FDA apologizing for DCM (Canine dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) irregularities and how about Carnivora? That made headlines but see below - unfounded - yet NO media coverage? Recall Resul...ts for Carnivora Raw Food - Absolutely no trace of 0157:H7 E.coli and no cross-species contamination. October 22, 2020 - Saskatoon Saskatchewan - Carnivora On June of 2020, Carnivora was contacted by Health Canada and informed that some of our products had been statistically linked to an e.Coli outbreak of three people in Western Canada. The outbreak was detected in February of 2020. Carnivora’s response to this news was to initiate a voluntary recall and ask our retailers and the public to return/remove the specific product that could have remained in the Canadian marketplace. The second stage of the recall involved Health Canada conducting months of random testing of Carnivora products across Canada. Since June of 2020, they have conducted comprehensive testing of our products from all regions of the country for multiple bacteria occurrences and cross-species contamination. On Oct 20th, we conferenced with April Hexemer, the Manager of the Outbreak Management Division and Centre for Food-borne, Environmental and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (CFEZID) for the Public Health Agency of Canada to learn the results of this testing. She informed us that the Public Health Agency of Canada completed its report on the alleged outbreak of E.coli 0157:H7 in the Carnivora brand of raw pet food. Not surprisingly, all products passed the tests (absolutely no trace of 0157:H7 E.coli). All other bacteria found were well within normal findings for raw, whole animal pet food products. It should also be noted that there was absolutely no bovine/avian cross-contamination. Additionally, she informed us that based on our own findings while testing our products and the products of others within the industry, Carnivora has been invited to join a newly formed task force initiated within a division of Public Health. This task force is mandated to formulate guidelines for all raw pet food manufacturers in Canada. This means that Carnivora will be able to continue its role as a leader in the industry, working with the government to set standards for manufacturers all across Canada. They thanked us for our transparency, cooperation, and partnership while they worked through their investigation. These findings were not unexpected. However, we are delighted with the outcome as this officially closes the investigation with Health Canada.
