Hand washing and good hand hygiene is important for so much more than just reducing the transmission of disease. It also prevents the need for antibiotics, ensuring they will continue to work for future generation. Nov 18-24 is World Antimicrobial Awareness Week. In Canada, 26% of infections are resistant to the most common antibiotics; by 2050, that number is predicted to be 40%.
