Getting ready for thanksgiving weekend markets!! Our gatherings might be a lot smaller this year but I hope everyone can still come together with close friends/family and share a meal and be thankful for what we have during this crazy time.
We’ve been picking onions the last couple days. They need to dry in the greenhouse before storage. This space is filled so we’ve stopped for now till I empty it some.
Picked up all the pumpkins and brought them in off the field. All the different kinds makes it so fun!
Don’t forget to place your WFM2Go order by 7pm tonight for Wednesday delivery. Drop off locations from Berwick to Halifax and in between. Lots of goodies on there for your Thanksgiving meals. http://wfm2go.ca
Great day to venture out to the farmers market!
Lots of veggie variety for the markets tomorrow. Tons of greens, cauliflower and jalapeño peppers. Last week for my eggplants so get them while you can! Eggs at both markets and pork at Wolfville. Halifax Brewery Market 8-1 and Wolfville Farmers' Market 9-12
Hauled all the winter squash off the field today. I was so amazed at the fact that I could have a bin on the front AND back of the tractor. Benefit of growing in Medford where there is lots of veggie specific gear. Lloyd said just wait till he gets me going with the double forks on the front and back to haul 4 bins at once!

My leeks are growing well. They got planted late so I won’t be picking them till end of October. I went through them with the hiller this afternoon and that’s the final step of their care before harvest. Hilling keeps the shanks white.
Saturday is market day! Wolfville till 12pm and Halifax Brewery till 1pm. Come on out for fresh veggies and support local farms.
Another Friday is here and that means picking, bunching or bagging and washing all the veggies for the farmers markets. I do all of the picking and my sister Donna bags the greens, trims and bunches onions, and washes the root crops.
Lots of great veggie selection this weekend! Wolfville farmers market 9am till noon. Halifax Brewery Market 8am till 1pm
I made a huge jump this year and expanded my business to grow enough for two markets. It’s not hard to grow more in the summer, but I like to stay at a market year round and that requires a lot of root veggies which take up a lot of land to grow. This photo shows some of my turnips. I’ve been wanting to expand for a while and meeting Lloyd was the push I needed to jump. I’ve invested everything into growing more crops and buying a van to get to that 2nd farmers market. I’m counting on a good harvest this fall and finding enough help to get it all out of the ground in time before old man winter settles in.
