Thank you to Ontario Liberal Party members of Kingston and the Islands who have chosen me as their candidate in the 2022 provincial election. I salute former MPP Sophie Kiwala for her continued hard work in this community and a race well run. Her passion for helping others will always be an asset to our community. This nomination contest has been an exemplary democratic exercise. Thanks to all the participants and the volunteers who worked so hard these last few months. Democracy does not happen by itself.

I'm looking at the Ontario Auditor General's Report on Ontario's COVID response which came out today. The report gives Ontarians a look "under the hood" and it's clear that what the AG saw does _not_ look like Doug Ford following the advice of medical experts. From the AG's news release: "...the command structure was not led by public health expertise, and Public Health Ontario played a diminished role in the province’s pandemic response.... In addition, the Chief Medical Officer of Health and other public health officials did not lead Ontario’s response to COVID-19..." And here is a quote from the Auditor General's summary on Ontario's planning and decision making which makes you wonder how often Doug Ford has been listening to his PC politicians, political staff, or pollsters instead of the doctors: "The Chief Public Health Officer of Canada recommended Canadians avoid all cruise ship travel due to COVID-19 on March 9 and the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a global pandemic on March 11. However, on March 12, the province advised families to go away during March break, which contradicted the advice given by other provinces and the federal government." Jimmy, it has been a pleasure to work with you these last three months and to feel your energy and drive. I can see it even in the little things like how you get you store ready for opening in the morning!

I have to bring my family back for a shopping trip! Congratulations to Namaste Indian Supermarket which opened this past weekend, just in time for Diwali preparations.

This weekend the Liberal family in Kingston lost party stalwart Dan Couture. Dan was dedicated to his party and his faith. For decades he was to be found volunteering for Liberal riding associations and election campaigns, always with a smile and story to tell. He'll be missed.
