Lavender Joy, all year long.

How do you feel about snow ? Do you embrace it, or grumble about it? We choose to see it as a positive experience, here’s how. 1. First we love the actual storm itself as it is a wonderful time to curl up inside and get cozy with a book or a good movie, prepare some yummy comfort foods, play a family board game, light a fire if you have one, and watch the drifting snow outside begin to take shape. 2. After the storm get outside early and snap some beautiful pictures of eve...rything looking so pristine in a blanket of white. 3. Think of all the fun things you can do in the snow. Find the kid in you and go sledding, make snow angels, strap on some skis or snow shoes, build a snowman or snow fort. 4. Shovel your driveway and walkways and take pride in the great job you did and the fitness you got doing it. 5. Think about the insulation the snow provides for your garden and the moisture it leaves behind for a nourishing start to a summer growing season. Like anything it is all a matter of perspective. New Years Eve rising. The rolling fields of frozen lavender, separated with prescribed spacing, a seeming metaphor for the world as we currently know it. But just as the lavender will emerge next spring foliage outstretched, beautiful flowers connecting one to the other, we are hopeful that 2021 will bring the same for all of us, and we may once again reach out and touch one another

Our trees are glowing a little bit brighter today as we are so happy to share that we donated $10,000 dollars to the Daily Bread Food Bank. This was in part because of the wonderful support we received for our Black Friday discounts to donations program. It’s been a tough year on us all and our own family farm business was no exception. But working together we will make it through this challenging time. We hope our donation and more like it will help those that are facing even greater challenges than ourselves. Perhaps too, our donation in some small way inspires others to do the same. Thanks again for being such great friends of the farm.

It’s #givingtuesday so we have decided to give even more to charity. As you know we chose to turn Black Friday discounts into donations. With every online purchase we were taking 10% and giving it to one of these four great charities @dailybreadto @blackwomeninmotion @brucetrail_btc @canadianwomensfoundation . Well guess what we are extending it to the end of today #givingtuesday and we are donating to all four charities now not just one of the them. We have already set aside thousands of dollars and hope to have even more to give after today. Let’s shine the light on these great organizations and all the charities doing amazing work across the country. While we definitely are no retail giant we hope in our own small way we can do our part to spread a little joy and inspire others to do so too.

Bleu Christmas Spread the Joy

Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow. Big snow day. So glad we closed the door .

Christmas has been celebrated on this farm for well over 100 years. Grains have filled the silo to feed the animals, the fields have been planted to harvest the crops, and the hardships and joys have been shared and celebrated around the Christmas table. Despite our pictures life is not a beautifully curated Instagram page but rather a collection of experiences both good and bad, that build character and give us the wisdom to learn from mistakes and build on our successes. 2020 has been one incredible test but the light of Christmas is almost upon us and better days lie ahead.

This year we are turning Discounts into Donations. In past years we have offered a few select discounts to thank you for your support. This year because of the extra challenges on all of us, we have decided that instead of offering a discount on your purchase, we want to turn those discounts into donations to help others. Every time you shop in our online store we are going to take 10% of your purchase price and add it to our donation fund. After this weekend's sales we will ...take those funds and donate it directly to one or more charities that you help us select. While we understand we all could use a little financial break this year, we thought it would be nice if you helped us pass on your possible savings to those in need instead. We aren't asking you to add to your bill, but rather join us in turning Black Friday discounts into donations helping those who need it more than ourselves. Change is as good as a break. We use the seasons as our cue to change things up a little bit, create new routines, explore new ideas. When we see our farm switch over from summer purples to fall yellows and oranges we know the tasks on the farm change along with them and so does our mindset. The changing jobs provide a great mental break and freedom to see new opportunities. How about you?

We post this poignant reminder at the exact hour, of the exact day, of the exact month, that the armistice agreement was signed to end the fighting in WWI. Let us never forget the extreme sacrifice that so many men and women made during this war and others that have followed. They fought and died for us so that we may live in peace and freedom . May we also take this time to reflect on why so many wars continue to commence and to search for ways to settle our disagreements through dialogue, compromise, and mutual understanding, rather than through hate, violence, and war.
