This November, post a picture of you beside a Terry Landmark (school, park, street sign, trail, mountain) and tag us at @terryfoxcentre and you will be entered to win a copy of Forever Terry: A Legacy in Letters We will randomly choose a winner at the end of the month! Forever Terry: A Legacy in Letters comprised of 40 letters from 40 contributors who give voice to the inspiration, dedication, and perseverance that Terry Fox embodied. Edited by Terry’s younger brother Darrell... Fox on behalf of the Fox Family, contributors range from Margaret Atwood, Bobby Orr, Jann Arden, and Christine Sinclair, to those who escorted Terry on his run. Forever Terry is a testament to the influence Terry Fox has had on the shape of Canadian dreams, ambitions, and commitment to helping others. Their reflections, which reveal connections between inspiring Canadians that readers will never have expected, appear alongside never-before-seen photos of Terry. #terryfoxrun2020 #terryfoxrun #terryfox #marathonofhope #marathon #terryfoxcentre

A photo of Terry and his grade 9 basketball team at Mary Hill Junior Secondary in Port Coquitlam BC. Doug Alward, Terry's Marathon of Hope companion, is also on this team. He struggled in grade 8 spending most of the season on the bench. Being scrawny and short together with having modest natural ability were major obstacles for Terry to overcome. Terry would overcome. Every unallocated waking hour if not minute over a two year period was spent playing or thinking about the g...ame! Terry would be a starting guard by grade 10. Anything is possible if you try. #terryfoxrun2020 #terryfoxrun #terryfox #marathonofhope #marathon #terryfoxcentre #portcoquitlam

The Fox family moved from Winnipeg and Manitoba to the west coast in 1966 but never really left. Summer holidays were spent taking either the train (Rolly Fox had day coach/economy passes through his CN employment) or pulling a trailer to visit Fox and Wark family members. The first week was spent in Melita, Manitoba with Betty's Mom and Dad with frequent visits to the Ross family farm. Mary Ann Wark (Terry's grandma) was an integral and influential mentor to Terry and th...e Fox family. This photo was taken in front of John and Mary Ann Wark's Melita home. Check out the black socks and shorts combo on Roly and Darrell - ahead of their times?! #terryfoxrun2020 #terryfoxrun #terryfox #marathonofhope #marathon #terryfoxcentre #winnipeg #manitoba #Melita

Terry loved sports. All sports. The Fox family did not have the disposable income for hockey so organized sports where only a ball, shoes and a glove were required became fast favourites. Terry played soccer, basketball, baseball and later rugby giving him the opportunity to act on and display his competitive nature. This photo was taken at McLean Park in Port Coquitlam, B.C. Can you identify Terry? For bonus points can you spot Doug Alward, Terry's early and forever friend ...and Marathon of Hope companion? Happy Birthday! What happens when you have summer birthday's and they are close together? One cake! 1968, the first year and summer at 3337 Morrill St, Port Coquitlam, BC. Continuing with the early year theme the following photo was taken during the 1966 to 1968 years after the move to BC and specifically Surrey. Waving yes curly no. The curls would only arrive post chemotherapy close to a decade later. It was a pretty bold move for Rolly and Betty Fox to consider raising their family in a warmer climate and away from family and friends in Winnipeg and the province. The Fox family would make the move to Surrey, BC in 1966 where they rented a house. With the move Rolly would lose 12 years seniority at CN and would have to start fresh in his new role as switchman on Vancouver’s north shore. In 1968 they would purchase 3337 Morrill St. in Port Coquitlam which would be the family home for the next 16 years. Betty Fox, like any mother, loved her family photos - the Fox kids cleaned up pretty good back then! #terryfoxrun2020 #terryfoxrun #terryfox #marathonofhope #marathon #terryfoxcentre

Every Thursday for the next few weeks and months we will share a photo of an artifact in the Terry Fox collection together with a few descriptive words. There are over 70,000 "Terry" items to choose from! The vast majority were cards and letters sent to the Fox family home some simply addressed "Terry Fox" in the weeks following September 1, 1980 the day Terry was forced to stop running. Betty Fox, Terry's mom protected and nurtured each and every item in the collection for 3... decades and now, in turn, so does the Terry Fox Centre. We thought we would start with an early photo of Terry. Cannot get much earlier than this one of Terry at 9 months old - he seems determined to find his way out of the carriage! Terry was born in St. Boniface Hospital on July 28, 1958. Winnipeg (Transcona) would be Terry's home for his first 8 years. #terryfoxrun2020 #terryfoxrun #terryfox #marathonofhope #marathon #terryfoxcentre

"This photo was taken during the early years in Winnipeg before the move to the west coast. Check out the matching sweaters!! December 25th was always a big day in the Fox family home. The Fox kids received little in the way of gifts during the year but Mom more than made up for it on December 25th! Maybe Mom's annual display of giving lay dormant within Terry until a cancer diagnosis awakened him to the need to give back?" #terryfoxrun2020 #terryfoxrun #terryfox #marathonofhope #marathon #terryfoxcentre

Thank you everyone for following our daily posts from Terry's Marathon of Hope journal from 40 years ago. The legacy of Terry Fox is close to the hearts of many Canadians. We remember his selflessness, determination and never-give-up attitude - values we admire and cherish. Our goal at the Terry Fox Centre is to ensure those values and his powerful, courageous story are shared with the next generation of Canadians as well as internationally. The Terry Fox Centre oversees tho...usands of artifacts from Terry's life and the Marathon of Hope and yet they are currently stored in boxes, far from public view. We believe it is imperative to preserve the collection, and develop ways to share this uniquely Canadian story. First, we want to document the expansive collection, then create a virtual museum all Canadians can access; and finally we hope to finalize our discussions around a permanent location for the Terry Fox Centre. We plan to continue to post, perhaps once a week, showing artifacts from the collection as we pursue our work towards a permanent location "for all things Terry". Please keep sharing with your friends and family and you can also sign up to your newsletter on our website for future updates.
