I knew I had seen a Great Blue Heron flying overhead a few days ago, and yup...found it today in the Cheticamp area. And yes, most do fly south for the winter, however, this one didn't want to risk not being able to get a Covid test to get back into the country. Michel JS Soucy - www.michelsoucy.ca

In the summer of 2019 I purchased an old Nikon film camera....solely for the lens attached to use as a reversed macro lens. This image was taken this morning of the wet snow on our patio door with that lens mounted on my Sony A7R3 (with the 50mm series e f1.8) + Fotodiox mount adapter + reversing ring . The lens is fully manual of course. Michel JS Soucy - www.michelsoucy.ca

The Black Crowned Night Heron can be found in many marshes and wetland areas of North America (not so much in NS). This BCNH was photographed in a small marsh in Kingston, Ontario in the summer of 2012. They, like most herons, will winter in the warmer southern regions. Two textures have been layered in for this presentation. Michel JS Soucy - www.michelsoucy.ca #AnimalArt #BirdArt #NatureArt #WildlifeArt #animals #birds #michelsoucy

This folder contains images taken by my honey and kick starting 2021. The camera/equipment setup, editing/processing, etc all done by her husband....myself. Wildlife photo locations will not be disclosed.... Lucille suffered a brain injury (Acquired Brain Injury) during an operation for a meningioma which was threatening her vision a few years back. Photography has helped in many ways and continues to be one of many therapeutic tools to this very day, as well as a great past-time/hobby, as well as helping her manage timelines in a chronological fashion as we review photos taken. She hopes you'll enjoy her images, as you'll notice, she has a great eye! All Rights are Reserved, these cannot be copied, printed without express written permission although sharing & tagging is welcomed. Please contact myself (Michel Soucy) should you have any questions with regards to these images, (they are not widely available commercially as mine are, and those that are made available, I own all copyrights). I may, on some, place both of our watermarks to facilitate tracking, as well to serve as an added resource tool for her as she returns to view images she's taken. She loves reading viewers comments, so please....don't hesitate! Thank you Images are by Lucille Soucy Michel JS Soucy - www.michelsoucy.ca

Went for a short walk after lunch in the park before that snowstorm arrives and came upon a few Pine Grosbeaks, all females. Had to take the camera off the tripod for this, so hand held on one knee. Of course we here in Cheticamp are not alone in having to deal with erosion issues due to the increase in climate change related storms and rising sea levels etc. The impact this is having on coastal communities cannot be ignored, and planning needs to happen to both protect areas that are vulnerable, but also to start to think about how close to the water does one really want to be with regards to new constructions, etc. This is not going to get better. These images serve to simply document the impact in our area in recent years. All images are Michel JS Soucy - www.michelsoucy.ca

Well, here we are.at the end of of another calendar year. As we prepare to celebrate the ringing in of 2021 and kiss goodbye to 2020, I have to admit that there are mixed emotions about it all. After all, though the calendar year is about done, the difficulties for manyare not. So much change, so much hurt, so much loss, with so much to say. but, it’s all been said hasn’t it?... In our humble little home, we are grateful for many things, namely: - we have each another - we have our families and friends - we enjoy fairly good health despite a few ongoing issues - we are not hungry - we don’t fear losing our home - and we have HOPE that today’s difficulties WILL become tomorrows successes. I’ll not say Good riddance to 2020and though it’s been a difficult year, more so for some, there has been plenty to be grateful for. As we prepare to usher in 2021, we are mindful that, not everyone has fared well, and so all we can hope for is that this pandemic will end sooner, rather than later. To all of my clients, who made a purchase, whether a simple greeting card, calendar, tote bag, canvas or metal print *Thank you*. Saying Thank You seems so inadequatebut thank you just the same. Remember, kindness is not simply a hashtag which looks cool on a social media post, but rather an *action* which one takes for the betterment of others. Finally, wherever you are, whoever you are, Lucille and I both wish you a grand 2021 despite the hardships of 2020. Stay well, and of course, stay safe. ~ Michel & Lucille

And so I continue to learn. I learned last night that we indeed do have voles here in Cape Breton, particularly...Red Backed Voles, which this little coyote has discovered and is getting set to extricate it from under the 2"-3" of snow. These photos, as always, are taken with a long lens, with most being cropped further. A reminder that feeding of wildlife is not wise nor good for the health of the animal, they do just fine with what's available for them in the wild. Michel JS Soucy - www.michelsoucy.ca

What to say for the holiday season? 2020 has affected everyone differently. No matter where one is on this planet called Earth, we have ALL been touched in ways that connect us, despite our differences of lifestyle, political and religious leanings, or, the beliefs which we all live by. We have all been touched by the pandemic in ways we couldn’t have predicted nor were prepared for. Two magnetic strips are on the back for mounting to your fridge, whiteboard, etc. They mail easily with a card and make great stocking stuffers! These will sell quickly with quantities extremely limited (most I have only one left), hence first come fir...st served. I'm not always at my computer and because of the low quantities, I cannot guarantee I can take special "set aside" requests in time before someone checks out via an online purchase. As with the other purchases, once an item has been purchased, the buyer will need to contact me via email, FB or phone to arrange the *safe curb side pick up* option if picking up. Many thanks, and Happy Holidays everyone! (The attached images are only samples of what's available.) I may reorder more sometime in 2021 to further online sales. https://my-site-108604-109799.square.site//fridge-magne/16

It's been a while now since my interest in nature/wildlife photography began. This image of a Great Horned Owl was one of a few "kick-starters". Kingston, Ontario, at the time, was home to many different owl species, and from what I can see being posted, it still is. Cheers everyone.... #owls #nature #wildlife #michelsoucy Michel Soucy - www.michelsoucy.ca

Bailey & Olivia out of Ingonish Harbour fishing lobster in 2016. Yes, still sorting and tagging images from previous years, this is what happens when one tries to "have a life" AND be a photographer. lol I shoot, process, sort, manage, and edit all of my own images...as most photographers do. Then there's the staying current with editing software, the computer to do this all in, etc etc etc. It's never a simple "click" and then you're done.... I usually begin by dumping all new images into ONE folder with sub-folders named/sorted by date. The keepers are tagged, others rejected which later get deleted, untagged images are left for further review, if I'm uncertain...they stay. Then further sorting will be done per subject matter..that sometimes, will take a while...but I know where to look should I need to pull something out. I don't have just one hard drive. I have two main storage drives, and FIVE back-ups, one which is offsite and gets swapped out weekly. If I had a faster internet connection (Fiber-Optic for instance)... I'd look at an additional cloud based back-up option. At the moment, I have 251,160 image files. This number will change daily as I add/delete stuff. The year is 2017, Lobster setting day on May 29, the time is 6:03:15am, the boat ... #104816. The fog is in robbing me of valuable light but the season is on despite. I've finally sorted and tagged the rest of the images (took me long enough lol). For the moment, they're all in one folder but will also be sorted into individual folders "alphabetically by name). During which I may do further customization on select images... Have a look at https://www.michelsoucy.ca/p815382953...
