To all our patrons and musicians: Yesterday (November 12th, 2020) the province enacted new Covid-19 prevention measures that affects our industry. Unfortunately they have deemed it necessary to end liquor service at 10:00 pm and our venue must be empty by 11:00 pm. In order to accommodate these measures we have modified our hours of operation as follows: ... All evening shows will now start at 6:00 pm and end at 10:00 pm. We have subsequently had to cancel all happy hour shows but still do our Friday lunchtime show. Our afternoon Jams on the weekend have been pushed forward to start at 1:00 pm. We still have limited capacity, so come down early and enjoy our new breakfast fare available only on weekends. Personally we here at The Blues Can feel these measures are misguided, as after 18 weeks and over 225 shows since we returned from our last lockdown without a single case of Covid transmission coming from any live music venue, that we have heard of. This is nothing but a knee jerk reaction from our provincial government to appear pro-active to the public and possibly the federal Liberals. Of course the casinos have to also stop liquor service at 10:00 pm but can remain open 24 hours a day. Is drinking past 10:00 pm cause a person to become more susceptible to Covid-19? No evidence has been offered in this province or any others that these sort of curfews do any good at all. The government needs to either sacrifice our economy and own it or identify where the infections are coming from and surgically eliminate the problems. So far all we have seen is a government flailing in ignorance attempting to hoodwink the public into appearing in control of an impossible to control situation. I had been proud of our provincial government while they stood up against the grain of the other provinces and a population given very little information with much of it factually questionable. We will continue to offer up what we can, when we can. That is our commitment to you. We do ask, in return, that our patrons continue to support all live music offerings available in our city. The hospitality and arts industries are on the ropes, gasping, and the musicians are particularly hard hit. Please help when and where you can.

Hello Blues-Canners: Greg Smith here, fearless leader. We are having some issues with AHS and their incessant inspections, many at night with full police presence. Despite the lack of infractions due to our vigilance, including patron spacing, plexiglass booths and plexiglass between patrons and bartenders, disinfecting, mask enforcement, washroom occupancy limits and working outdoors as much as possible, and all the other things we do to keep you, our performers and o...ur staff safe. Now there is something You can do.... Please take photos when your out and about around town and post them here. We are trying to show AHS that we do as much or more than anybody in town. Please take photos of other bars and stages/performers as you encounter them.... both the good ones and the not-so-good ones, and we'll see who is doing what to prevent the spread of Covid. We do not care about the names of the establishments or the addresses, as we are not trying to rat anyone out here. Just show AHS that we are one of the good ones, to try and get them to leave us alone. If possible, do include time/date stamps so they can see when the photos were taken, but preferably nothing that will identify the bars. Please help us get the Covid fascists off our case and let us do what we do for all the music lovers out there. 16 weeks, and over 200 shows since we returned from lockdown, with not a single infection coming from The Blues Can...
