The Coping Centre 03.12.2020

If you celebrate them in your family, the holidays can be one of the hardest times of the year after a loss. Not everyone can celebrate as they used to and that is very much alright. Changing traditions to suit your new reality whether temporarily or forever is a completely acceptable way to cope with the loss of a loved one. Altering old ways or adding new traditions to include and remember the ones you love is an important step to your grief journey. Many of you visit ...the Coping Centre to remember your loved ones with us by hanging an ornament in their name on our trees. My family has evolved this tradition in our own homes by filling our tree with the names of all those we love and those we have lost. Each year we pull out the ornaments with the names of our friends, family, co-workers and all those who we love who are still here with us. We add ornaments with the names of our Grandparents, our friends and relatives who are no longer with us but who we love just as much and hang those amongst the rest. It is the one time of the year when everyone we love can be together. We honor and think of them and get to spend the holidays with everyone who matters most to us. This tradition works for us. Find your own ways to include your loved ones in your holiday in the way that feels right to you and your family. See more

We all know that this holiday season will be different. At Coping, we are so very sad that we cannot come together as we usually do to remember our loved ones together with you. Ros and Glenn wanted to make sure they were still able to send you some words of hope over this holiday season. Please share these words with whomever needs to hear them and reach out to us at 519-650-0852 if you are struggling with the added stresses this year brings to those who are already grieving a loss. These are also posted on our website along with other resources to help navigate this year. Keeping you and your families in our thoughts always, and especially through this very different holiday season <3 https://822c6528-19df-40d1-8345-6b1d8e8b41de.filesusr.com/

When someone we love is hurting because of the loss of a loved one, it is our instinct to fix what we see as broken. But those who are grieving are not broken. They have been handed an immense weight to carry whose bulk cannot be shared. This weight is theirs alone to bear. The best we can do is to support them in their journey to build their strength to do it. Just like an athlete training for a marathon, the process can be a slow one. As supporters of those who are gr...ieving, we can help them through the process by being the listening support system for those we love. We cannot tell them it won't hurt because it will. We cannot tell them it's not hard because it is. What we can do is to tell them that we are here for them for the times they need us. To let them cry, be angry, enjoy the good times. We can be their support and we will be with them all the way. This article touches on some wonderful ways we can be the listeners and support those who have lost loved ones in our lives. https://www.psychologytoday.com//how-listen-those-in-mourn See more

This is why it is so important to find the right person to talk to. Coping is happy to connect you with the right trained professional who has experience with working through all of the feelings related to grief and loss. WHO you talk to matters.
