B.C. dance studios, gymnastic centres, martial arts venues, cheer and yoga studios must immediately close amid new Covid-19 restrictions. We must suspend any group classes at the studio while new provisions are being developed. New guidance is being finalized and is expected to be available by Nov. 30th from our government. Once new guidelines are released we will be able to re-open. All regular scheduled classes at the studio will cease as of today Tuesday Nov. 24th until n...ew provisions are released from the government and Fraser Health. We know how upsetting this is to our dancers, staff and their families. We are here for you and are in the midst of figuring out a plan to keep our dancers motivated during this break. Today was a good day! In the midst of all this chaos around us and the fact we can’t dance together right now, we needed this! To think that we got on the stage one month ago to tape these routines for today’s virtual broadcast @synergydanceco is crazy. How lucky were these dancers that they got to get out and perform?! We could not be more proud of this team our dancers, teachers, choreographers and the amazing families that support us. It has not been an easy path getting ...here. We were literally days away from our first competition of the season when everything was shut down. Moving forward we decided we would still compete them when the chance was there. These routines are not the same dances as what we originally learnt.....they’ve evolved many times. We lost teammates.... re choreographed, we gained teammates....re choreographed and that cycle seemed to replay. These dancers worked through it all and were determined to put their best foot forward no matter what obstacles they had to overcome. We congratulate all of you for your amazing achievements and to all the other studios that were also involved in these fall events, bravo! Our studio will be closed for the next two weeks (Nov.9-Nov.23) following the restrictions announced yesterday by Dr. Bonnie Henry and the Provincial Health Authorities. We would like to congratulate our October standout students of the month Elite Company dancer @makaylachu and Gem Company dancer Addison Yip!! Very exciting month for this family as these students are actually sisters! Makayla is in her last year of dance and has struggled from recurring injuries the last couple seasons. Since she returned to classes in September Makayla has been working super hard and pushing through. Makayla has been a standout to many of the teachers this ...past month for her positive attitude and work ethic. We look forward to seeing even more growth from Makayla throughout the rest of the season. Addison has really blossomed since our reopening in June. Addison competed her first solos this past season and with all the new changes surrounding the dance competitions she had a rocky start even running off stage in the middle of her performance. Instead of letting that get her down she went home determined to do better and continued to practice. Addison ended up in the top 10 at the next three competitions and was awarded the 2nd highest scoring jr soloist at the last competition. Huge accomplishments for such a young dancer!! Well that’s a wrap for our 2019/20 dances!!! Tonight we are so unbelievably proud of each and everyone of our students who competed these last two weekends @synergydanceco & @startalentdancecomp dance competitions. It is so fantastic to see these groups hit the stage! It is a step in the right direction for the dance community. We can get back out on stage, we can compete with our groups, we can have spectators in the audience....these are things a few short months ago that w...e weren’t sure were possible. Yes it may be a little different and we are learning to adapt but we are just so happy to be back in theatres with our dancers. Seeing our students having multiple fast changes and looking after themselves, keeping calm and being prepared without the help of their parents has shown us how adaptable our youngsters are and how they are capable to do so much, they are learning to be strong and independent throughout this process. We would like to acknowledge the accomplishments of deserving dancers every month!! This month our standout students are Elite Company member @michelacorea and Gem Company member Capri Dallazanna. Both of these dancers have worked exceptionally hard this month, learning multiple new routines to join their company groups in the October competitions. This is definitely not an easy task for either of these girls. Michela was unable to take part in the Company program last year ...as she was dealing with complications from previous injuries. To see Michela being able to dance at 100% and be back with her team for her Gr. 12 year is a huge deal! She isn’t missing a beat in class and is dancing these routines as if she were always in them. At 9 years old Capri just began dancing this summer with the Gem Company. She was asked to learn three routines from last season all within the first month of this dance year. Capri has worked so efficiently to learn these dances and is amazing us daily with her improvements and taking on this choreography so effortlessly. To say that we are proud of these dancers would be an understatement. Yesterday these kids went into their first competition of the 19/20 season. For some of these dancers it was their first solo ever and they were required to perform under new health and safety protocols with no help from their parents inside before they danced or while they had costume changes. It was definitely a bit overwhelming for some of our younger dancers but they went out on that stage performed f...rom their hearts and showed us their love of dance. Change is always difficult at first but now that theyve done it once their next competition this summer will seem much easier. These kids have not had regular classes since spring break, they came back to the studio in June for a modified schedule and 6 weeks later got out on that stage to compete! It may not be how we ever imagined our season to go but it is a step in the right direction and brings us so much hope to seeing more dancers getting to hit the stage in the fall. Today wouldve been our 2020 recital showcase at Michael J Fox Theatre.
