The East Point Lighthouse 24.01.2021

We were busy today!

The East Point Lighthouse 09.01.2021

Great photo op yesterday!

The East Point Lighthouse 02.01.2021

Well, what can happen in a day! Truly an unexpected one for me. Got a message early in the day to see if there was any chance of getting into the East Point Lighthouse today, some local boys needed to shoot some video, so heck, that's my job! Even though we are closed for the season, that was an opportunity too good to pass up. Those local boys are none other than the East Pointers, so how appropriate was that! Didn't that shot of them in the tower come out great! It was an u...npleasant day weather-wise, but people-wise, it was a treat. Turns out, a couple of the boys had never even been inside the Lighthouse, but this was a perfect chance for them, they even went outside the tower on the walkway, quite an experience for them, and their camera crew! Since I don't go east so much these days, I took some pictures on the way up, and on the way home. And upon arrival in Lower Rollo Bay, after catching the last of that fantastic sunset, look what a local fisherman dropped in to my house! Market lobbies, all cooked and ready to go! How lucky are we, and many thanks to Johnny! And that, my friends, is a wrap. See more

It's a wooly day at East Point!!

I delivered a supply of our books to a neat little bookstore on Main Street in Montague called "Twice Upon A Bookstore." Cute as a button, and the owner is determined to promote Island authors. She has a great selection of new and used books, beautiful new boardgames, Tarot Card sets, it's worth a stop. Also, it's very convenient for folks in that area of the Island to have a ready source of reading materials, and availability of "To The Point.....and back again!" Drop in soon!

Well, it looks like summer 2020 is in the books! It was quite a challenging year, as it has been for many businesses, and we are grateful for each and every visitor. Those who couldn't make it this year, hopefully we'll see you next year! Our staff has certainly changed and evolved over the years, and as Manager, I'd like to send out a humble thanks to Ben, Donna, Tamara, Emily and Myah. I was blessed with a wonderful staff, not a whiner or complainer among them, a terrific team. We started off our last day on site, as we often do, with a trip outside the tower, with a chicken on the ground (Tamara) to take our pictures, and it was certainly a perfect day for it. What a bird's eye view. Magnificant. What will 2021 bring? Who knows? For now...........that's a wrap!

Well, where did that summer go? Surely we'll have some awesome days yet! But sadly, it's time to announce that the East Point Lighthouse will be closing on this Saturday, September 5, 2020. Anyone who has a trip planned East to pop in to the Lighthouse, this is your last week! Covid19 has certainly remained top of mind, and we really appreciate every visitor who respected our contact tracing protocols, and constant hand sanitizing. Every day. Every visitor. Every staff member.... What will next year bring? Who knows? But that big red and white icon will still be welcoming visitors, so if you haven't made it up this year, put us on the list for 2021! We will remain open this week, from 11-5 everyday, and we'll pack it up on Saturday. Cherry on Top Creamery and the Gift Shop will both be remaing open a little longer, so that's a couple of reasons right there to drive up. We'll be seeing ya! See more

It's looking like a lovely Sunday morning! A liitle overcast, a nice cool breeze, what a great day for a drive. Yesterday we had some vintage car enthusiasts visit East Point with their beautful rides, and I caught a quick picture of some of them while they visited. Caught up with Sabina and her posse, it was nice to connect. How about you? What are YOU doing today? Why not pop up before summer 2020 is in the books, take a tour, get some pics, devour a delicious artisanal ic...e cream from Cherry On Top Creamery, scope out the gify shop? See ya!

Another day, another fox! We've taken to calling this one "Timbitz" because one of us made the mistake of dropping our treat as we took a break outside, and he gobbled it that fast, we ran inside with the rest. The foxes at East Point are a wonderful photo op, and our visitors love them, seems that people rarely get this close. But they are becoming entirely too comfortable with humans, it's obvious someone is feeding them. They roam the parking lot and even lie down right un...der cars. Not smart. There's lots of opportunity for free meals at the Lighthouse. Word got out. So yesterday on my way up Lighthouse Road, I was able to take these shots from my car, showcasing what foxes are actually supposed to be doing......catching rodents! You'll note one in Mama's mouth, good girl!! I feel safer now. Everyone who knows me knows how I feel about those dirty little things. So get going foxes, clean up East Point! It's looking like a beautiful day, come on up for a visit! See more

Mask? Face shield? Mask AND face shield? A lot of people are asking about the rules and protocols at the East Point Lighthouse, and I must say, the traveling public is pretty laid back at this point. Hand sanitizing now seems to come second nature, and we appreciate it. We also ask for your patience when we ask for your name and phone number for contact tracing that we hope we'll never need. Is the public wearing masks? I'd have to answer a resounding "no." But if mandated, ...no problem. At the Lighthouse, staff is prepared. We have masks. We have face shields. We have hand sanitizing gel We have Purel. We have pure spray alcohol. We have antiseptic wipes. We have the attitude. WE ARE READY. So for everyone's safety, let's all start thinking about wearing those masks. We may not like it, but the alternative is pretty grim. Let's keep those numbers down. It may not look like business as usual at the East Point Lighthouse, but we'd love to see you, and usher you up to the tower. 10-6 every day, all summer long. See more

Another great shot of the East Point Lighthouse.........but wait! For once we can identify the person standing in front. That's Myah, one of our employees, all decked out in her Prom 2020 finery, and looking pretty cute, we might add. Look at that sky, what a nice afternoon, and we thank Myah for taking the time to drop by!

Thanks Mr. Lawrence MacAulay for our new flag. It looks beautiful!

Yesterday, even on a dreary day, the East Point Lighthouse still has a lot to offer, perhaps even more so than on a sunny day. The dark cool weather cast new shadows inside the Lighthouse, and the staff started swapping ghost stories. You could almost convince yourself that perhaps up on that second floor, with the old signatures on the wall and that odd door, moving a little in that drafty place, perhaps an old spirit was hanging around. If the lights had flickered at just t...he right time........zoom! We'd be gone! I took a few pictures focussing on the unique architecture inside the Lighthouse, some ups and downs, it lends itself very well to photo ops. And what a day on the surf! You can see the ferry huffing across the Strait, but couldn't you just imagine an old schooner running rum? Or a barque loaded with spices and fabrics and dishes, exchanging their cargo for salt fish? We can, the stories were getting pretty tall yesterday! Another dark day today, perfect for a drive and a trip up a charming old lighthouse. And speaking of charming, I better get ready for work........... See more

Spare a few minutes to watch this little clip. IT. NEVER. GETS. OLD.

The East Point Lighthouse 04.06.2020

It's starting out to be a nice day! East Point is expecting light breezes at 20km out of the SW, gusting to 40 km later today. The forecast has changed from sunny skies to 30% chances of showers this afternoon. Big surprise there. Might not be a great beach day, so why not jump in the car and take a drive east? Have a tour of the Lighthouse, grab an ice cream at Cherry On Top Creamery, browse the giftshop. We're open all day, see you later!
