A feel good story from G.A.P. we wanted to share! Last month I received a phone call from someone who had recently moved away from Gravenhurst. During the conversation, she choked up with tears as she explained to me how she wanted to make a special Christmas donation to G.A.P. as a way of giving back to the community she loves. A few hours later $1,000 was e-transferred to G.A.P. to be distributed in grocery cards to families with children who are facing food insecurity. Every year we're amazed by the support we receive from the Gravenhurst business community as part of the silent auction inour annual Winter Gala. Despite a challenging year for many, we are receiving an excellent array of auction items and we're incredibly thankful. If you have something you'd consider donating then give us a call or an email. There are many businesses that have given back to the community over the years but are struggling in 2020. During the town council meeting on Tuesday, The YMCA indicated to the town that they intend to begin a four-phased re-opening strategy beginning in January 2021. The proposal included the gradual re-introduction of membership to the various programs and services offered by the YMCA, including the re-opening of the pool. Following the presentation, Council agreed to fully support the Gravenhurst YMCA’s request for additional subsidy of $62,000 to offset financial impacts of CO...VID-19. Council is sending a clear message that we appreciate the partnership with the YMCA, and are anxious to have them open their doors to the community in a safe manner said Mayor Paul Kelly.
