Learn about Descending Pyramid training and why we use it Strength training has a lot of benefits, but there are risks that come with it as well. Lifting heavy with improper form or with weights that are too heavy for you can cause injuries. Along with that, if your body is not conditioned to the stress, it can be damaging for your body to be under excessive stress for extended periods of time.... Kirstie Griffith’s (a chiropractor and yogi who teaches yoga programs that help with back pain) says that The body starts to fatigue as you go through a certain number of reps, and some people get to a point in a workout where they can feel when their form is starting to come out of alignment. One thing physios, chirps and coaches can agree on, as your body fatigues through your workout, small stabilizing muscles that support your form can start to fail, and subsequently your technique and alignment can suffer. To avoid this, descending pyramid training can be effective, as it supports higher intensity sets and reps early on in your workout. This allows for fatigue later on in your workout by decreasing weights and reps helping you to maintain form, further decreasing your chance of injury. Although pyramid training is not the only style of training we use at MVMT, it is definitely and effective one. Particularly, if you're just starting out on your fitness journey as you can effectively build strength while minimizing injury risk. Advanced movers may also opt to use this method if you're looking to push a little harder in a short period of time. Instead of stopping to rest when you fatigue, by overloading your muscles with lighter weights later in your workout, you'll be able maintain form and complete more total training volume in a short period.
