What if we all practiced an act of #SelfLove , affirmed our #SelfWorth , or practiced #SelfAcceptance every day? What impact do you think that would have on our #MentalHealth ? We do other things daily to support our physical health so why not make our mental health as much a priority? At the clinic we’ve declared this month #FebruaryLove and are aiming to show up, care for, and accept ourselves each and every day in big and small ways (even when it's hard to, especially when... it's hard to!). We will be posting stories regularly so you can see what we get up to and we invite you to join us, if you wish- you can always tag us in posts and stories or you can participate quietly alongside us! Let’s see how practicing self-love consistently for a month impacts our overall mental health Happy February everyone! * * * #MondayMotivation #MondayMood #TheNaturalWay #ExploreWR #KWAwesome #ND #FunctionalMedicine #Wellness #NaturalMedicine #Chiro #Chiropractic #Chiropractor #Counselling #Support #MentalHealth #SocialWork #SocialWorker #RMT #MassageTherapy #MassageTherapist #Massage See more

It may seem like all we have been doing for the past year is counting not only the days, but the minutes, even the seconds. And yet, so much is happening and we can still have an impact on the world and make memorable moments even if we have to play by pandemic rules. Do something to make today count, to make your weekend count- it doesn’t have to be big, and it only has to be for you * * *... #FridayFeeling #TheNaturalWay #ExploreWR #KWAwesome #ND #FunctionalMedicine #Wellness #NaturalMedicine #Chiro #Chiropractic #Chiropractor #Counselling #Support #SocialWork #SocialWorker #RMT #MassageTherapy #MassageTherapist #Massage See more

The final tip from Dr. Cruickshank, DC, about postpartum care is about re-establishing an exercise regime. Starting to exercise again after pregnancy can feel a little bit overwhelming. Knowing what to start with and when to start can be challenging to determine on your own. There are a couple things to keep in mind when beginning an exercise routine, which include: - Start slow and easy and gradually increase your intensity and duration - Make sure you get lots of rest ...and avoid anything that feels uncomfortable - In the beginning it can be helpful to promote healing through exercises that focus on breathing and core/pelvic floor contractions. This can be started as early as you feel comfortable - For more rigorous exercise programs make sure you have clearance from your health care provider Everyone is different and has a different postpartum experience. So make sure you listen to your body. If you are interested in developing a postpartum exercise program Dr. Cruickshank, DC is here to help. Through her extended learning with the Grow CO Rehab Program for Postpartum Moms she is able to work with you to develop an exercise program that is most suitable for your needs. Many of us were looking toward the New Year as the giant RESET from 2020 that we all (desperately) wanted, but the New Year has come and unfortunately things outside of our control didn’t just automatically reset because we wanted/needed them to and this has left some of us with that nagging anxiety or even more anxiety than before. That is completely normal and instead of wondering why you can’t stop it, or berating yourself for it, it may be more helpful to try to understan...d what your anxiety is trying to tell you: You’re not feeling safe. You’re having a difficult time coping. You feel like you might lose something. The present situation feels similar to a past experience. You can’t control this. There is no certainty. This is new, unknown territory. You’re unsure. You need more information. This is important, don’t ignore/downplay it. Speak up. If you’re struggling with anxiety, feel free to reach out to our Registered Social Worker, Kathryn Jones, 519-465-4481 [email protected] * * * #FridayFeeling #Covid19 #SocialDistancing #RSW #Counselling #TheNaturalWay #ShopLocalKW #ExploreWR #KWAwesome See more

Our last (but certainly not least) team member is Dr. Jennifer Charron, ND, the Clinic Director of The Natural Way! At the very beginning of Covid, Dr. Charron, ND, switched (almost ) seamlessly to virtual care for her patients. Since being able to see patients in person again, she has worked non-stop to provide the best and safest care to her patients both in-person and still virtually. If you are a current patient of hers and haven’t seen her in a while, she is here 9am-...5pm Mon-Fri. If you are looking for a Naturopathic Doctor and wonder if she may be able to help, Dr. Charron, ND, has gained experience in treating a wide spectrum of acute, chronic, degenerative, and stress related medical conditions. Her areas of special interest include but are not limited to: Acute colds/flu, Pediatrics, Kidney/Bladder Infections, Immune Support, Stress Management (anxiety, insomnia, fatigue), Headaches/Migraines, Women’s Health (irregular cycles, menopausal difficulties, infertility, hormonal imbalances, PMS, fibrocystic breasts), Osteoporosis, Endocrine Imbalances, Skin Disorders (acne, eczema, psoriasis), and Fibromyalgia. Did you know that when we speak about the core we are actually speaking about multiple muscle groups? Not only are we talking about your abdominals but we are also interested in your glutes, diaphragm, pelvic floor, and your spinal musculature system. When we look at imbalances with the core system we are assessing not only your strength but also your endurance. In general individuals who suffer from low back pain will often find that they their core is imbalanced in rega...rds to the strength and/ or the endurance of the various muscles. Unsure if you have an unbalanced core system? Not a problem! Contact us to have your core score performed with Dr. Cruickshank, DC. As we head into the hustle and bustle of the holiday season it’s easy to get caught up and lose sight of our own health and happiness. During what may be one of the strangest holiday seasons for a lot of us, it’s more important than ever to focus on our self-care routines. Self-care looks different for everyone and it is certainly not a one-size fits all kind of thing and this year we might all have to adjust some of our regular holiday rituals, e.g. quality time with loved ...ones might not look the same but that doesn’t mean we can’t find comfort in a new way of doing it. For those of us who love the outdoors, this might be the best year yet for encouraging others to get out there with you (socially distanced if not part of the same household!) and show them what you love so much about the winter! If you’re struggling with the idea of how to handle your mental health this holiday season, feel free to reach out to our Registered Social Worker, Kathryn Jones, 519-465-4481 [email protected] If you want, leave a comment below telling us what self-care routine gets you through the holidays! * * * #Covid19 #SocialDistancing #RSW #Counselling #TheNaturalWay #ShopLocalKW #ExploreWR #KWAwesome

During fall and winter experts are not only expecting a second wave for Covid-19 infections but also for mental health issues. The chronic stress of the pandemic, as well as a host of other issues the world has been facing this year, has taken its toll on the mental health of all. For some it is the real concern of contracting Covid-19 and seeing friends and family succumb to it, for others it is the uncertainty of the economic strain in the wake of the pandemic, for many the...re are rising concerns of racial prejudices and politics to deal with in addition to Covid-19, and for all there is the effect of the long-term isolation and social distancing. We also cannot forget that we were facing our own issues and stressors before Covid-19 and those didn’t stop just because there was a pandemic. Unfortunately due to these pre-existing issues and stressors, some of us are more vulnerable to the mental health toll of the pandemic. If you’re feeling less able to cope these days, whether it be with stress, anxiety, depression, etc, or if you just need a supportive ear, our Registered Social Worker, Kathryn Jones, is here for you. 519-465-4481 [email protected] * * * #Covid19 #SocialDistancing #RSW #Counselling #TheNaturalWay #ShopLocalKW #ExploreWR #KWAwesome See more

In this last part of Dr. Cruickshank, DC’s headache series, she gives headache sufferers a few exercise tips! One of the most common muscles that can get strained and irritated creating a variety of headache pain includes the sub-occipital muscles. These small muscles are located at the base of your skull and when tight can refer pain to your temple region, eyes and the side of your head. A common cause of this tension is our poor posture with reading, texting, and computer ...use which is a daily concern for most individuals. The best way to combat this tension is to work on your posture and help release tension at the base of your skull. Doing a simple exercise like chin tucks where you slightly retract your chin while you look straight ahead (give yourself a double chin) can help offset the pressure in your neck. Taking breaks throughout the day from your phone and computer and making sure your desk is set up appropriately for you are also important things to consider. Another way to release the tension from those muscles is with a sock and two tennis balls. Place the tennis balls in the sock and tie a knot. Once you have that set you can place the sock at the base of your skull along the tight muscles and lay down on top of the tennis balls to apply a bit of pressure at the base of the skull. Lay there until you feel the sub-occipitals release (about 30 seconds). This exercise will help to massage and release the muscle tension and may help improve your headaches! If you feel like Dr. Cruickshank, DC, could help improve your headache/migraine woes, email us [email protected], call us 519-772-2116, or book online https://thenaturalwayclinic.janeapp.com/ ! * * * #Headaches #Chiro #Chiropractic #ChiroKW #ShopLocalKW #KWAwesome #ExploreWR See more

This is one of Dr. Cruickshank’s favourite sayings at the clinic. Motion is lotion. The more you move the more lubrication your joints get. This can help to improve your function and mobility throughout the body. Ever wake up with stiffness in your lower back or have stiffness in your knees after you have been sitting for a long time. This can sometimes be related to a lack of movement. Try doing a couple of low back stretches in the morning or get up and move every h...our if you do a lot of sitting throughout the day. Take home tip make sure you keep moving throughout the day! If you’re unsure if your stiffness is just that, give us a call or email to book in with Dr. Cruickshank, DC!
