Artichokes are beautiful, but as a member of the thistle family, it’s no surprise that they can be a bit intimidating. Many vegetables are easy to roast or eat raw, but artichokes require a bit more attention. Don’t panic! Trim the sharp edges of your artichoke, remove the hairy choke before steaming it, roasting it, or marinating it with lemon, garlic and oil. All it takes is a bit of TLC to transform that artichoke into something delicious! Some fruit, like bananas, wear their cold damage on the outside: the banana peel will turn grey when exposed to the cold for too long. ... Mangoes and avocados that have been damaged by the cold are harder to spot. Both will turn brown on the inside well before any signs show up on the outside. We have a strong commitment to quality and every winter we struggle with how to balance offering beautiful tropical fruit and packing undetectable cold-damaged fruit into boxes.
