Here is a variation on the Reverse Expansion on the Reformer. Add in a kneeling squat for additional lower body and balance challenge. Do you want to try this at home? Add in weights or soup cans in place of the Reformer straps. Maintain a neutral spine with your abdominals stabilizing as you hinge and work glutes and hamstrings as you come up from kneeling.... #pilates #thepilatesbodystudio #merrithew #fitness #workout #mississauga #ontario #oakville #burlington #portcredit #portcreditbia #stayhome See more
Chicago Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta has some good reasons for doing Pilates. Could they help you too? https://youtu.be/ANZapyygak8

This is a great article worth a few minutes of your time. People often have an image of the "typical" Pilates client and here's an example of an atypical client. Yes he's in sports but a sport that is about being big and hitting things versus the mind-body connection. Next, we need more articles about how Pilates will help people recover from injuries. Because, once again, there's a perception that Pilates is for this or that type of person (usually translated as, you have t...o be fit to do Pilates - NOT TRUE) and the FACT is, it can help with everything from athletics to rehab. Yes, rehab. I'll get off the podium now so you can read the article. http://www.pilatesbody.ca/pilates-takes-the-field.pdf
This past weekend was the Total Barre course here at the studio. The repertoire is dynamic and challenging. I should know: I've been doing it for the last month and it's both tough and fun. (and it'll help me stay slim for the suit I'm wearing next weekend for a wedding - shhh, don't reveal my secret) Send along your congratulations to these instructors and look, they are still smiling and energetic even at the end of a long day of learning!
I've been enjoying this quote that Stan Wawrinka has tattooed on his left forearm. For those that follow tennis, you know how hard Stan works and that, in a different era, he would have more Grand Slam titles to his name. He is the model of perseverance. "Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. ... Try again. Fail again. Fail better." The quote is by Samuel Beckett from "Worstward Ho."
Last weekend these 5 students took part in the STOTT PILATES Injury & Special Populations course. This course "equips you with the skills required to address a broad range of physical challenges among your clients." In essence, instructors learn to modify the STOTT PILATES repertoire for injuries and restrictions. And having owned a studio for almost 15 years, it is clear the material here will help with MOST clients. We all have something! So, let's give a congratulations to these 5 for working hard at learning more tools to help us become a healthier community.
This isn't a quick read, but it IS an eye-opener. Check it out when you have a few minutes http://io9.com/i-fooled-millions-into-thinking-chocolate-he
