Give your lap to your child as a gift of a soft place to land. A place they can count on for love and safety for as long as they need it. Artist unknown.

Reminder to parents with children who are separated or divorced. Subjecting your children to your poor opinion of your ex only leads to confusion and emotional damage. If you speak poorly of your ex you speak poorly of that which is your child. Your child feels it deeply, if mommy or daddy are bad then I must be bad. If both parents are speaking ill of their ex where does that leave your child. You're entitled to your opinions just don't share it with your children. And extended families please support your children in helping them understand this.

The mental health issues related to our lockdown and the pandemic are especially hard for people with depression. A 24 hour helpline is here: 1-888-COVID-19 1-888-26843-19 (BC)

To discipline effectively is to teach objectively. To discipline is to lead by example. As a master leads his disciple. Discipline......I believe, we think , see or write this word and our own experience of what we were taught, this word means, creates alot of struggle in our relationship with our children. We were taught, to discipline is to correct, to be punitive, to control the behaviours of our children. ... The greatest mistake made by many is to personalize their childs behaviour. If our child does not have socially acceptable behaviour we take it personally, our childs behaviour is somehow an extension of ourselves. In fact if a childs behaviour is maladaptive the last thing necessary is discipline. What is necessary is compassionate enquiry, a term Gabor Mate coined and is something every parent could be mindful of when addressing behaviours that are challenging. What is compassionate enquiry? Well it is a state of mind. It is the ability to step out of the emotionally charged situation and ask questions with a compassionate view of the situation. To do this successfully one must set aside ones own experiences of how they were disciplined and approach the issue with love not with the only objective to make the behaviour stop but to understand why the behaviour is being played out the way it is. However, to change the pattern a parent must do their own work simultaneously while helping their child do theirs. It is not easy but with understanding, self awareness and compassion for your own outmoded lessons, it is very possible and can be the key to a deeper connection to self, your child as well as bringing calm back to the family.

As government are trying to figure out how to ease back in to a new normal, please remember: Some people dont agree with the opening.... thats okay. Be kind. Some people are still planning to stay home.... thats okay. Be kind.... Some are still scared of getting the virus and a second wave happening....thats okay. Be kind. Some are sighing with relief to go back to work knowing they may not lose their business or their homes....thats okay. Be kind. Some are thankful they can finally have a surgery they have put off....thats okay. Be kind. Some will be able to attend interviews after weeks without a job....thats okay. Be kind. Some will wear masks for weeks....thats okay. Be kind. Some people will rush out to get the hair or nails done.... thats okay. Be kind. The point is, everyone has different viewpoints/feelings and thats okay. Be kind. We each have a different story. If you need to stay home, stay home. But be kind . If you need to go out, just respect others when in public and be kind! Dont judge fellow humans because youre not in their story. We all are in different mental states than we were months ago. So remember, be kind. COPY AND PASTED.... Please SHARE this reminder for kindness.
