Even though I no longer shoot family portraiture as my Brand Coaching and Filmmaking keeps me pretty busy, sometimes I just have to say "Yes!!!". Confession: I may have started watching Netflix (The Last Kingdom, anyone?!?!) in the middle of an awards banquet last night...yes, yes it was THAT exciting. . . But since I WAS nominated for Best Videographer, I decided to attend last nights Ottawa wedding awards with a group of fabulous ladies. I was lucky enough to steal a gorgeous @pasteldressparty long tulle skirt in dark grey from my friend Earleen at Encore Bridal Ottawa STRAIGHT OFF HER MANNEQUIN since I left my... dress decision to the last minute. Thanks Earl!!!! . . The fabulous @lianalacroixbeauty styled my hair for me and I got to sit with the best and most beautiful group of gals ever and visit with some incredible friends from the #rtsottawa crew. Many of whom were awards recipients last night including Ashley Notley Photography (get it giiiiirrrlllll!!!) Satin & Snow (I might have cried with joy for you!!!) As the foundational picture of my clients brand identity becomes more clear, I begin to see how their uniqueness can best be expressed in such a way to create a brand that fully encompasses their strengths. . . Yesterday, I got to snuggle the tiniest little babe for a Newborn Lifestyle session and today I got to do a short video with one of my favs @ashley.beaudin that had me laughing until my guts hurt (see more in my insta stories) . . Friendlies, there is nothing that lights me up like knowing I am doing the EXACT thing I was born to do. .... . Its #internationalwomensday which means we ladies get this one special day to wildly share all of the reasons why women are AMAZING without the #patriarchy reminding us that our world still has a loooong way to go before womens contributions are truly valued in the same way that mens are . (*stepping on my soap box and not apologizing for it) This is my friend Brittany Frid from Satin & Snow she is gutsy and driven in a way that blows me away! Britt isnt afraid to try... new things, she boldly applies herself to learning and mastering new skills. Britt sticks to her guns and doesnt let naysayers drag her down. She is a person who doesnt apologize for the space she takes us in the world. Brittany is gracious with her time and always there supporting others. Her confidence and kindness make her someone you want to hang out with every single day. In my life I am surrounded with women who make incredible impacts on the world in small ways that matter profoundly. These women may never find themselves on the cover of Time magazine for their contributions but the lives they lead everyday are filled with inspiration, courage and strength. Can I tell you honestly, that I cringe a little when I hear about my creative friends "Re-Branding" their website. . . And while part of me wants to just and not ruffle any feathers I just care way too much about seeing others succeed to just keep quiet. .... . So here it is friends, the hard truth: You cant Re-Brand unless you know 100% what your brand actually IS. . . Doing so prematurely is a massive waste of your time. . . Its sort of like throwing things at a wall and seeing what sticks. Crossing your fingers that youll make your website so pretty or fun or modern or whatever that clients who previously overlooked you, will suddenly fall in love. . . If only it worked that way... . . Finding your brand isnt about choosing a new website template. Its not about a new logo or colours. . . Its about so much more than those external things. . . If you want to re-brand, my friends, thats great! But build your brand the right way and all that hard work on your website will actually have real value to growing your business and setting you apart in your niche market. . . It wont just be pretty, it will be EFFECTIVE.
