With the increase in overdoses this week, we'd like to remind the community that free naloxone kits are available at a variety of agencies here in Regina. Some places you can go to get your training and a kit include Four Directions Community Health Centre AIDS Programs South Saskatchewan Carmichael Outreach Inc. SWAP, Addiction Services, & The Harm Reduction Methadone Clinic. Click the link below to see all the agencies and pharmacies that offer take home naloxone. We'd als...o like to remind you if you are using, not to use alone. If possible have someone with you, and keep a naloxone kit on you as well. If you are around someone who overdoses call 911 no matter what! We have the good Samaritan law in Saskatchewan so don't be afraid to call for help! Be safe out there, and if you're struggling - please reach out! https://www.saskatchewan.ca//take-home-naloxone-program-si
There have been some changes to the Santa Shuffle Regina this year but the event is still happening! Every year, The Santa Shuffle raises money for a variety of programs offered through The Salvation Army ministries in our community. The race will be moving to a virtual format this year due to COVID19, which means you can complete your race anytime between Dec. 5 - Dec. 12! The current situations we are dealing with are leaving many individuals and families in need of extra support. This is a fun, easy way to help those in need, right here in our own community! Click the link below to register as a participant or to pledge someone who's walking! https://www.santashuffle.ca/regina-p183933&language=en
Over the weekend we received a generous donation of toiletries & warm winter wear from Mount Olive Lutheran Church !! As the weather gets colder we are always in need of socks, toques & mitts as we have many people stop in to request these items. We provide winter wear to anyone in need, regardless if they are a resident or not. This will help those in need stay warm as the temperature drops. Thank you!!
Kings Corner Church of God also blessed us with over 100 Christmas gift bags for our residents!! Thank you for thinking of our residents this holiday season. This will help us ensure that every resident has a gift Christmas morning!
Wow! Sending our gratitude over to Kings Corner Church of God for donating delicious turkey dinners & gift bags for all the residents of Waterston Centre & Waterston House! Our community continues to bless us. Thank you!!!
With the amount of snow received last night we hope everyone is staying warm & made it to work/school safely this morning! All this snow also reminded us that Christmas is on the way! If you or a family you know is need of a little assistance this Christmas, head over to the The Salvation Army Haven of Hope website to apply. Haven of Hope offers the adopt a family program as well as their partnership with Z99 for Santa's Anonymous. *Please note that there will be no in person registrations this year due to COVID19. If you require assistance with the online application please call Karen at 306-757-4600 Ext. 9 https://www.havenofhope.ca/christmas-assistance
Remembrance Day ceremonies will look a little different this year, but it is still important to take time today to reflect on our history and give thanks to those who came before us, who gave their lives so that we can live as freely as we do today. We will be having a small, in house ceremony this morning hosted by our Chaplain, Major David for our residents and staff. We encourage others to attend a virtual ceremony today to show support for our veterans. The Legion will be streaming their ceremony beginning at 1030 this morning. Click the link below to find out how to watch. God bless & be safe! https://regina.ctvnews.ca//here-s-how-to-watch-regina-s-re

In support of Suicide Prevention Day, we’d like to share some local resources if you or someone you know is having thoughts of suicide. As scary as it can be to reach out, and share how you’re truly feeling with someone, it could save your life, and you deserve life. Have genuine conversations with your loved ones. If they express that they are struggling, listen non-judgmentally, hear them out, let them speak. You don’t have to suffer alone. As today is FASD Awareness day, Dr. Michelle Stewart and Andrea Kotlar-Livingston took some time to speak about the Integrated Justice Program. The Integrated Justice Program is a newer program that helps support individuals with FASD within the justice system and help stabilize them in the community. Check out the video to learn more about the program and what services they provide!
Who doesn't love a smile cookie!! Next week the smile cookie campaign is back, and this year the proceeds are being split between some great local charities! Regina Waterston Centre acknowledges the financial support of The Lorne and Evelyn Johnson Foundation, a private foundation serving the people of South Saskatchewan. The Foundation was established by the late Lorne and Evelyn Johnson to respond to the changing need and opportunities of the community and provides grants to eligible charitable organizations in culture, health, education, environment, recreation and social service sectors. Thanks to a generous donation from The Lorne and Evelyn Johnson Foundation we were able to purchase 6 new chairs and 4 coffee tables for our Men’s Residence lounge! This new furniture goes great in the freshly painted lounge and really modernizes the space. Thank you so much! The men are very excited and are already enjoying them!
September is Suicide Prevention Month There are a number of services available within our community if you or someone you know is struggling. Please know that you don't have to suffer alone. If you are having thoughts of harming yourself, please reach out!
What a great addition to the neighborhood! Located adjacent to the Regina General Hospital at 1550-14th Avenue, the centre brings together services from the former Al Ritchie Health Action Centre, midwifery and Kids First Program, the province said in a news release. In addition, services have been expanded to include nurse practitioner services, chronic disease management and immunization services."

Did you know, Saskatchewan residents have free access to a dietician?
This past April, the ladies at Kate’s Place found themselves in a tough situation when they discovered several of their air conditioning units were stolen. As Saskatchewan summers can be excessively hot, this was a very unfortunate situation for the ladies to be in. We are very blessed however, to live in such a generous community and felt the love and support when Kate’s Place received a donation large enough to replace 5 air conditioning units!!! We would like to send out ...a HUGE thank you to Capital GMC Buick Cadillac, Capital Ford Lincoln & Universal Collision Centre for thinking of the ladies at Kate’s Place and helping support them in replacing the stolen units. We are so thankful to have such wonderful community support and feel truly blessed. THANK YOU for helping us turn this unfortunate event into yet another moment to be thankful for our community. Today we had the pleasure of hosting our first BBQ of the summer! BBQs are a summer favorite here at Waterston, however, with everything going on lately we haven't been able to have one. Thankfully, as a sense of normalcy is returning, the SRP residents were treated to the first BBQ! The courtyard decks are freshly stained, the flowers are blooming and the sun is shining! It was a great time to get together!
Before COVID19, we would have therapy dogs come into Waterston Centre to visit and hang out with the residents to offer some pet therapy. Unfortunately as we have had to limit the amount of visitors to our facility we haven't been able to offer pet therapy for our residents. Luckily for us, some of the staff members have been bringing in their 4 legged friends to fill the gap! Meet Bella, Lady and Kobe! These 3 have been coming in frequently and have been loving all the attention they are getting from the residents. It is great to see the residents interacting with the dogs, playing, smiling and laughing together. Pets are a great way to get residents to open up, forget about what's going on in the world right now and just enjoy the moment.
In honor of Mental Health week, we wanted to share a series of free online workshops that the Canadian Mental Health Association Saskatchewan Division is hosting this month!
