The War Amps 22.11.2020

During Remembrance Week, Strawberry Blonde Bakery raised funds for the Association through the sale of their remembrance-themed cookies and cupcakes. Today, they announced their donation of $894.40! Thank you to everyone who supported this kind initiative and to the bakery and staff for their continued effort to bring awareness to The War Amps programs and services. Together, we are making a difference in the lives of amputees.

Kristen paused for a moment of silence at her local cenotaph in Kingston, ON, to pay tribute to the late Madeleine Jaffray. While serving in Belgium as a nurse during the First World War, Madeleine Jaffray's foot was severely wounded after a bomb fell in front of her. This led to an amputation, making her Canada’s only female war amputee. She also became The War Amps only female member and took a very active interest in the Association’s work. She passed away in 1972. Read Madeleine Jaffray's biography: https://waramps.ca/.../our-war-amputee.../madeleine-jaffray/
