O C T O B E R October is one of my favourite months! It’s a month of remembrance and awareness with focuses like Pregnancy and Infant Loss, Breast Cancer Awareness, and Mental Illness Awareness Week. It’s a month for gratitude! One of my favourite holidays is Thanksgiving and I am so excited for family and friend time! ... It’s also a month that reminds me that it’s okay to let go. The trees don’t carry their leaves with them all year long. Instead, they let them fall so that new growth can arrive in the spring. I’m trying to be mindful of this metaphor as I move forward in the homestretch of 2020. What thoughts, beliefs, and feelings can I let go of? What areas of my life need some love and acknowledgement so that I can grow to be the best version of myself? I’m hopeful that this metaphor can be useful for you too! P.S I am booking into November! S E P T E M B E R ba de ya, say do you remember? ba de ya, dancing in September ba de ya, never was a cloud day!... Thank you, Earth Wind & Fire #ifyouknowyouknow #yourewelcome My years seem like they always have (and may "always will") start in September! For real, since I was 5 and started going to school, new years always begin in September for me...forget about January, lol! September rolled in quick! Truthfully, I am still wishing for some more warm evenings but as long as winter stays at bay for a while, I will celebrate "sweater weather" and start to turn on the space heaters in my offices! #alwayscold With school back in, my current caseload remains closed at this time but I am hoping that by the end of the month I will have a better idea of how many more new clients I can welcome into The Wellness House! Find your people! You know those people that just light up your life, put a smile on your face and support you no matter what? Those are the people that you want to surround yourself with! Those are the people you want to give your time to! This girl is one of my best friends! She has my back, I can tell her anything, and she cheers me on every day! .. And when she wants to buy a hat, she even gets a custom one done to SUPPORT ME! ... The hats don’t even match 100% (sorry girl, lol ) and it doesn’t bother me one bit because I know she will be the first person to get another hat once I get my actual logo on some! (soonish?!) I mean, it’s such a simple gesture but it really inspired me to keep going, keep dreaming and keep believing in myself! 3 little letters that mean so much! #thankyourandis Surround yourself with people who support your dreams and encourage you to achieve goals along the way! A U G U S T It’s August! And it’s beautiful! This month’s theme for me is Holistic Health! ... You’ve heard me say it before... You can’t just focus on one aspect of your health and expect the rest of your body and mind to follow suit! But! I don’t want to be one of those therapists who doesn’t practice what she preaches! So let me tell you that I too am working on myself! I am healing from my past traumas, learning how to love myself and speak my truth! We all know that self love is a journey and I am here, walking right along side of all of you! It’s been hard, there’s been tears, and there’s going to be more.. but I’m here for it! The beauty of self-love and holistic health is worth the hard! I look after myself holistically by making sure I take my vitamins and supplements, *trying* to eat healthy (I mean, it’s summer and I LOVE ice cream! ), working out/being outside, and by making appointments with practitioners and healers! Our little town of Stettler is FULL of amazing resources for holistic health! #stettlerismyfavourite My holistic health list! Paper Moon (supplements) Elmtree Healthstore (supplements, crystals and all sorts of wonderful!) Primrose Healing Collective (subconscious imprinting has literally made me feel like a whole new person following a session!) Goals with Soul (Reiki and Breath Work! Loretta is an angel in my life and I am so grateful for her! .. I attribute so much of my healing journey to sessions with her.. I am going weekly right now!) Training with T (I complain more than I work out but Taryn is a beautiful soul inside and out, who is so supportive and encouraging.. and she kicks my butt each time!) Randi Cassidy, soon to be Mrs. Bartman! (This girl is not only my bestie, she is an incredible massage therapist... I mean absolutely the best! Book in soon so you get the best appointment times!) The Coffee Tree (they know my name and make me a special wrap.. I mean, when that’s the service you get at a coffee shop, you better believe it’s part of your holistic health) My doctor (I feel so fortunate to be a patient of my doctor’s! He is understanding, supportive and asks about my practice every time we talk! He also supports my current med prescription for anxiety ... Told you! I am here to work on myself too!) MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS And I could go on! Stettler is literally the best little town and has so much to offer! My Why! You guys! I just got back from a weekend trip to BC! With everything that’s going on in the world, this little escape was just what I needed! ... I practiced gratitude daily, spent time in nature everyday, and slowed down for 4 WHOLE DAYS! #FOURWHOLEDAYS I came back to my practice at TWH house with a renewed sense of my why! And I thought, why not share it with all of you! My Why: to make a difference And it’s that simple. My whole entire Why is because I whole heartedly want to make a positive difference in this world (especially in my own community)! I want to help people remember how strong and capable they are! I want to encourage self-love and effective communication with oneself and others. I want to remind people to take care of themselves! Do what makes you happy! Find your joys! Buy the expensive coffee, eat the ice cream, stay in bed for 5 extra minutes, take the little trips.. whatever it is that lights you up! And I want to do all of that in my own way, with science and intuition combined! And that’s it.. That’s my Why! #makingadifference I hope you choose to find joy today! I can’t even believe it and it comes with saying, from the bottom of my heart ... I AM SO GRATEFUL! I have now reached client capacity for the summer! ... I want to make sure that I am still effective when I go back to work for Clearview in September! Therefore I’ve made my caseload manageable to do both jobs come the fall! Mindful Walks! It’s so sunny and beautiful outside! I hope each of you can take a few minutes today to go outside to enjoy nature! To introduce some mindfulness in to your time outside, pick a colour to focus on and become aware of everything that is that colour! ... Sometimes I pick obvious colours, like green! EXCITING NEWS!! I have been approved by the College of Alberta Psychologists! I am now a Registered Provisional Psychologist! I have my registration number and everything!!! ... Eek!!!! This is so exciting!! 8 years in the making! This piece of paper has made me soooo happy!! (I may have cried happy tears!) Clients can now use insurance and sessions will be covered! J U N E I saw a meme on Facebook that said, Congratulations, we’ve made it to level 6 of Jumanji! ... and I was like yep #headknod! This year hasn’t been easy or typical in anyway but again.. days continue to pass. And perhaps, like I’ve seen many others’ posts, maybe 2020 is the year for growth, change, and forward movement for both ourselves and our world! ... I want to say thank you again to everyone who has supported me! I’m looking forward to meeting my new clients and building my caseload! In June (sometime) I will be hearing back from the College of Alberta Psychologists, hopefully with the great news of receiving my provisional registration number.. which means I will be covered by insurance!! I will announce it as soon as I know... keep your fingers crossed for me! P.S One of my assignments in my undergrad was to design a counselling office (6 years ago!). I went to a counsellor once who had a fountain in her room. I loved it so much that when I completed the project I said that one day I’d have a fountain in my own office! Happy Tuesday, Everyone Reminder: Everyone’s mental health is different. You don’t have to be struggling every day or be clinically diagnosed to seek counselling. Proactive mental health counselling might look like learning skills to manage everyday stress and anxiety. With an individualized Solution Focused treatment plan, therapy may not have to be long term! Sometimes, 4-6 sessions are all someone needs to be able to see the world differently! ... MENTAL HEALTH WEEK! Day 6 Gratitude! ... You’ve heard it before and I’m sure you’ll hear it again! Gratitude is the bomb!! I am a huge proponent for a gratitude practice! I’ve been consistently practicing gratitude every morning since April 1, and I can tell you that on those days where I may wake up on the wrong side of the bed, finding something (even one thing) to be grateful for helps to change my perspective! My gratitude practice is all thanks to Performance Physiotherapy & Acupuncture/ Health & Fitness Centre and their Isolation Challenges for kickstarting a more consistent practice for me!
