Do you ever find yourself leaving an appointment and wondering what your health practitioner does for their health ... Same! We know a thing or two about living a healthy lifestyle. Here's what we keep in mind on our own health journey. Keep these things in your mind next time you're wondering "if you're doing enough."... It's the small daily actions that have the biggest impact. Aim for small manageable changes you can stick to over a long period of time. This will make the biggest impact on your health. Your body is designed the move! It doesn't need to be hard or high impact, but it needs to be something. Move as much as you can in a day in a way that feels good! Less is more. If we give you a stretch or exercise remember that it shouldn't be painful! If you use a pain scale of 0 - 10. Any stretch or exercise should be a 2/10. Drink. Your. Water. We're not exaggerating when we stress how important drinking water is to your health. Listen to your body. It's giving you messages all day long about what it needs to feel good. Share this with someone who needs a reminder that health doesn't need to be complicated. See more

When life (#ParentLife) gets crazy the BEST thing you can do for your family is to take care of yourself. Sometimes easier said than done. Dr. Brad and I understand how hard it is to balance life, parenthood and work. Running a thriving business (pun intended ), raise two kiddos AND manage our own health is a lot of work. Plus all the changes with COVID and the second wave lockdown.... We've learnt a thing or two about managing our time and prioritizing our wellbeing. Here's what we've learnt works well for us: Double down on our routine when life is EASY. By focusing on building a strong routine when life feels easy. We have strong habits in place for when life is challenging. Prioritize exercise and hydration. Both are key to keep your energy levels HIGH! Which, as any parent knows, is important! Set expectations + communicate daily. We've made a habit of checking in with each other (and our support system!) to see what we need to feel and function our best. This helps decrease stress and ensures everyone is on the same page. Do a time trade! This is our favourite parent-hack. We'll do a time trade, where one of us gets an hour or two completely kid-free and chore! This ensures that we each get the time we need for self-care, whether it's a run, DIY craft or Epsom salt bath. We help each other make the time! Parents, we know that this year has been challenging and we're here for you. Share your best time management and self-care hacks below See more

"Better Health. Better Living. Better World" is our motto. Here's why: If you're healthy, you FEEL GOOD!... If you feel good, you're going to be able to live your life to its fullest doing the things you love to do with the people that matter the most to you. If you're happy with your life and living well then you'll have the energy, resources and willingness to give back to the world in positive ways. It's a cycle One that we strongly believe in. What's 1 way you've improved your health this past year? How is that healthy change improving your life and your impact on the world?

We all have those days. Dr. Sarah here. This photo is from one of my "those days" last year. It was very cozy... but NOT quite work-appropriate. (Thank goodness for keeping indoor shoes at work!). Sometimes we have so much going on at once. Between kids, work, home, and family, it's easy to forget things! Like the basic parts of YOUR life!... It's normal. It happens. It's funny. But these moments are also a good reminder. To slow down, take a deep breath and put all of the "to-do's" aside every once and a while! One of our goals at Thrive Health PTBO is to ensure that our clinic is family-focused. We take care of a lot of families and provide care for people at all stages of life. Both Dr. Sarah Campbell (pictured here!) and Dr. Sarah Wild do a lot of work in prenatal and postnatal care, as well as providing chiropractic care to children. Dr. Sarah Campbell shared that she has always had a deep desire to support, educate and empower women to mak...e choices for themselves and their families that will help everyone enjoy a healthy, happy and balanced existence. Dr. Sarah C is always amazed by the human body and its complexity and resilience, so a career as a chiropractor seemed like a natural fit! She loves that chiropractic care is a safe, effective, non-invasive therapy that can both treat and prevent a wide variety of conditions and can be adapted for all ages. It was Dr. Sarah Campbell's own experience becoming a mother in 2016, that she began to develop a special interest in pre/post-natal care which lead her to complete advanced training in pediatric care. We hear this a lot. "I think I have a knot, what is it and how to do I fix it?" What clients typically think of as a "knot" we call a trigger point. A trigger point feels like a "knot" under the skin, we call this a "taut irritable band of tissue." Triggers points can refer pain in predictable patterns and can sometimes cause a jump response when pressed. Dr. Brad was discussing trigger points and how to reduce them with a patient last week and we thought we'd share his advi...ce! There are many things you can do - while your #athome - to help to reduce trigger points. 1) Use a lacrosse ball to apply pressure to the trigger point and to roll out the trigger point. 2) Use a muscle cream - we really like MuscleCare! 3) Self-massage - if you don't know how to ask your clinician next time you're in, we're happy to show you how. 4) Stretching - we can't "stretch" this enough! It's so important to stretch regularly to ensure your muscles stay healthy and function properly. 5) Apply heat - Using a heat pack or hot tub are both great options. Have you tried any of these techniques as part of your homecare?

Have you had the opportunity to try acupuncture yet? Many of our clinicians use acupuncture as part of their clinical practice and our clients LOVE it. Sure, they might be a little hesitant at first, but the affects of acupucutre can be powerful and beneficial for so many conditions. Here, at Thrive Health PTBO, we offer two types of acupuncture; Contemporary Medical Acupuncutre and Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture. ... Here's a little bit about what each type and what each type is great for! Our chiropractors offer Contemporary Medical Acupuncture. The research behind this type of acupuncture is extensive and based on muscular, neural anatomy and physiology. It's incredibly effective in calming muscle spasm and tension; relieving pain and inflammation; improving blood flow; and improving nerve function. Essentially it helps muscles and nerves to work more efficiently as they recover from injury! This type of acupuncture is great for back and neck pain, disc herniation and sciatica, headaches, numbness and tingling, shoulder/arm and hip/knee conditions and sports injury rehabilitation. TCM acupuncture can naturally treat a wide variety diseases, illnesses, pain, and stress-related symptomology without the unwanted side-effects of medication. Common conditions treated with acupuncture include fertility concerns, prostatitis, digestive issues, arthritis, altered menstruation, and chronic pain among many others. TCM acupuncture treatments often uses other holistic, supportive techniques such as qi gong, cupping, guasha, moxibustion, massage therapy, as well as various mind and body practices. And I'm sure you're thinking, "but is it painful?!" Acupuncture is usually pain-free and very comfortable! Curious? Give us a call! We're happy to answer any questions! See more

Your body is designed to MOVE! All. The. Time. It is made up of muscles and joints that thrive when they are moved in all directions. Every. . Day. . Problem is, so many of us spend our days working at a desk instead. And on top of this - your body is a very efficient system, so if you're not using it and moving it regularly, your physical body will lose mobility, flexibility, strength and overall health! This is why we begin to feel stiff and tense. ... For relieving back pain, the most important joints to focus on are the spine and the hips! Our hips are meant to be very flexible and our spine is meant to be really stable. However, when we lose range of motion in our hips, we end up over-straining our lumbar spine (i.e the low back!). It's important to improve the flexibility of your hips so that you are able to move (bend! reach! squat! jump! twist!) using your hips rather than your back! Make sense? Good! Here are three things you can do today to help improve your body's overall health, improve hip flexibility and relax your back. 1. Get up and go for a walk! #moveyourbody...or have a solo dance party - that works too! 2. Take a child's pose. Hold for 10 breaths and feel your hips and back relax. Do this daily! 3. Add a lateral stretch to your child's post . Walk your arms to the side, hold for 10 breaths, and do both sides. Also daily! Looking for more ways to stay active, keep your body moving and manage back tension? Book in with one of our chiropractors to help improve the mobility you're hips are needing and with our physiotherapist to help build some strength and stability. Together we'll get your back to feeling healthy, mobile and balanced!

Thrive Health Ptbo 22.07.2020

Well...actually ya! Stretching or full body movement of some form is the greatest investment you can make into keeping your body feeling well. Why? It's kinda what your body was made for - movement! It increases flexibility and range of motion. It improves your performance in physical activities. ... It increases blood flow to your muscles. It improves your posture. It helps heal and prevent #pain. It's great for #StressRelief and can help calm your mind. Patients often even say that they just don't like how stretching feels. Here are some of our best stretching tips! Stretching should not hurt, it should feel like a 2/10 on the pain scale and it SHOULD FEEL ENJOYABLE! Like a massage from the inside-out! If the stretching you're doing hurts, chances are you're pushing yourself too hard and/or you should look for a different way to stretch that muscle (ask your clinician next time you are in!). For example: do you always do a forward fold (standing and trying to touch your toes) to stretch your hamstrings and hate it because you're so far from touching the floor, your back hurts and it's so intense you can't hold it? Well, try stretching your hamstrings lying on your back, using a strap to grab your foot. It's WAY more accessible and chances are. you can hang out and it feels good. The more you stretch, the more you are going to like to stretch! What are your favourite stretches to do? Drop them below! See more

We always encourage our clients to brin...g their kids to their appointments if they need to. We don't mind at all! What we care about is seeing you and helping to ensure you're in good health. Plus we know that when our kids see us living healthy lives and taking action towards living thriving strong healthy lives, that our kids will make healthier choices in the future! Let's talk about self-care! Do you have certain tasks or activities you know you need to be doing to feel your best? If so, do you prioritize them? These are important questions to ask yourself, and if you're unsure of the answers we are here to help! We understand that every single person who walks through our doors is unique, with different needs, different goals and different lifestyles. We know there isn't a "one-shoe-fits-all" method. ... That's why we take the time to get to know each of our clients and to create treatment plans that reflect your unique goals and needs! An important part of our treatment plans is the home care instructions you'll receive after your treatment. Home care might include using heat/cold therapies, doing specific stretches or exercises, drinking more water, going for a walk or changing how you've positioned your desk chair. It really depends on YOU, your needs and your body! What do you do as self-care? Do you have specific things you know you need to do to feel 100%? We all have to sit at a desk sometimes, but if you sit at a desk all day long then it's extra important that you give yourself breaks and get up to move frequently. Here are a few simple changes you can make to your workday: Use an app or timer to remind yourself to get up every 20-40 minutes. ... Alternate between sitting and working and standing and working. Add in quick cardio bursts: walk up and down your stairs, do 30 jumping jacks, choose something obtainable and accessible to your fitness level (asks us next time you're in!). Add some stretches in - we have three great ones here that would work well for any desk worker. What are you doing today to make your workday feel better?

This is a question we hear all the time and the answer is actually no AND yes! A big part of what we do is educate our patients on being in charge of their health. When you come in to see a chiropractor (this also applies when you come to see our massage therapists or physiotherapist too!), you are in charge of your own health. So when you come in, you decide on your treatment goals! ... You decide on what you want to accomplish. Some of our patients come in with pain or an injury and they want a great treatment plan, exceptional hands-on therapy and to be able to get back to what they LOVE to do. Once these patients reach those goals they are discharge until they need us and our treatment again. For other patients, they have BIGGER wellness goals and want to prevent future problems and they want to maintain their progress once they begin to feel better. For these patients, they find that regular chiropractic care is a great health tool to keep their body feeling good, moving and functioning well! We find that patients who see a chiropractor often develop a keener sense of body awareness and things they may have ignored before - they want to take ACTION before any small ache or pain becomes a bigger problem. So again, how frequently you see our chiropractors is really up to you - the patient! Ask yourself what are your health and wellness goals? This is usually a great place to start! See more

In softball, she started as a pitcher, quickly realized that it wasn't the position for her and switched to first base which she ended up playing for 7-years! (Any other softball players around here? ) She loves to bake. She has two dogs. One is named Cooper, a wire-haired fox terrier and the other is named Maggie, a Lakeland terrier. Dr. Erin has published a paper that looked at how exercise affects seniors' quality of life and overall balance. She loves to travel and be adventurous - once travel restrictions are lifted, Dr. Erin hopes to travel to Italy, Greece, Ireland and Iceland in the new few years. She's originally from Whitby, ON, but is loving being able to call PTBO home! Have you seen Dr. Erin in the clinic yet? See more
