I am a registered licensed master plumber a owner of a licensed plumbing contracting company. B GIBSON MECHNICAL. I have read a lot of the posts within the... site and have a great deal of sympathy of what is happening here because two of my rental homes have been affected as well. I see a lot of people indicating that they should replace their copper pipe with plastic piping. And the use of SharkBite fittings. although shark bite fittings are a good transition between copper and plastic shark bite fitting is not meant to be concealed behind any drywall nor will it pass any plumbing inspections in a concealed location. My biggest concern and the reason for this post is people are installing plastic water lines and not taking into account some of the water piping is used for their electric ground. A few weeks back one of my plumbers was startled when he remove the water meter and there was a large electric arc while he did so this was due to a broken electrical neutral wire on the power feed to the home. The city utility repaired the wires. When and if people are replacing their piping to plastic a ground wire From their electrical panel to below the water meter should be verified as this could create a future hazard or electrocution. When we take out the permits to do the work the work is guaranteed and inspected by the city staff and then note on the inspection report that the waterline replacement is installed correctly and the installation meets the current plumbing codes and that theelectrical ground is correct.
